Clad dime on surface..36. Clad quarter on surface..42. Bury dime in clean area at 2"..-6. Bury quarter at 2" in clean area..32 to 34. Test garden with assorted coins at 7" to 9"..readings all -8. Used auto noise cancel, auto gb, all metal mode, target ID on with stock mf concentric coil. What do you get with your 705's? I know deeper coins will give erratic readings but figured the test at 2" should have been close.

One thing you haven't mentioned is your Ground Phase reading. If it is below the mid-20's, your mineralization would warrant a DD coil. But even that wouldn't likely give the results you indicate. If you've done the entire set up properly (NC,GB,Sens,Vol etc), it sounds to me like your X-TERRA is not working right. Having a coin air test a +36, then at 2 inches the same coin reads a -6 is way out of whack. With the 705 properly set up, those 7 - 9 inch deep coins in your test garden should read within a notch or two of what they read in air tests. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks again for all your help. I put my 5x10 DD coil and got 36 on surface and 34 at 2" for the clad dime. Did a quick check on my test garden and dime readings were off some but not reading -6. Quarter at 6.5 inches was reading solid 48. Will do more thorough testing in the daylight and retry the mf concentric coil. Planning on getting a 7.5 freq. 10.5" DD coil, would you agree that's a good coil to add or would you recommend something else. My main detecting is coin hunting.

When you ground balance, what number are you getting? Knowing that could help determine your best coil choice. I'm pretty crippled up and find the 10.5 inch DD coils are more than I care to swing. If I were going to buy one coin for coin shooting, I'd opt for the 6-inch DD at 18.75 kHz. Lightweight, great balance, excellent separation and super depth for a coil that size. JMHO HH Randy

Right now I have the 7.5 freq. concentric albeit not sure if it's working right and the 10 x 5 18.75 DD. You mention the 6 inch 18.75 DD but what would that do different than the 10 x 5 18.75 DD that I have? I was leaning towards the 10 inch 7.5 DD coil but am open to your suggestions as they have been a big help to me so far in my quest of this hobby.

Thanks for the additional info. The 6-inch DD coil will provide better separation than any other X-TERRA coil. I know there are those that think the 6 X 10 offers the same separation. And that is true when you look from "left to right". But adjacent targets could just as likely be toward the tip or heel of the elliptical, in which case the smaller footprint of the round 6-inch would obviously offer a better chance of not having two targets under the detection pattern at the same time. Based on your ground phase readings of the mid-20's, I'd definitely recommend a DD coil over the concentric, due to the "ground neutralizing" design of DD coils. In my moderately mineralized soil (ground phase typically in the low 40's with a concentric and low 50's with the DD's), I can get as much depth with the 9-inch concentric as I can the 10.5 inch DD. But in your soil, with ground phase readings in the 20's, I'd suggest you will get much better depth (and operation) from the DD. As to which frequency? I did not find any difference in depth of detection between the two 10.5 inch frequencies. I did find that, in my soil, I had to lower my Sensitivity down a couple clicks when using the 18.75 to keep it from falsing. So based on that, I'd have to say the higher frequency is a bit more sensitive to targets as well. Regardless of which coil you chose, rest assured that all three frequencies will find gold, silver and copper. As I said, the lower frequency operates a bit more stable at high Sensitivity settings. And you already have a larger high freq coil. But again, either should do a great job of finding coins if the additional weight of the coil doesn't present a problem. JMHO HH Randy
