705 with 18.75 mH COIL

New to the game. I have a 705 with the "gold" 18.75 DD coil. I want to use it for nugget hunting here in Arizona. Can I run it in Prospecting Mode, and recheck signals in Coin mode without possibly losing a nugget? It seems I get some chatter in prospecting mode that will now blank out in the coin mode. This seems to be iron or steel false trash targets most times. I feel that I get much less chatter in the coin mode but feel I probably lose sensitivity and depth (but don't know to what degree). Thanks guys!!

Hi radtech,

Yes, flip it into coin mode and check a signal is a common method used
But here in Australia a lot of our gold is found in ironstone so we risk the TID stating that the target is iron when it may be ironstone studded with gold.
IMHO prospecting mode is more powerful depth wise than coin mode
I would not advise running in coin to find gold but hey- u could try it.
If I get chatter and have already Ground Balanced (or if u are running in Tracking) then its either put up with the chatter or turn down Sensitivity

Experiment with both your Off-Set Tracking and Iron Mask-IM in Prospecting Mode. Some people set the IM at only 1, but set it as high as possible(1 to 20) just so it will not blank-out the size of nuggets you are looking for but will still knock-out the iron chatter, experiment.

Yes you can prospect for gold in Coin & Treasure Mode(in All Metal-AM or notch out all the minus- numbers and also +48 which is a hotrock) at reduced depth.

Yes, after finding a target in Prospecting Mode, then recheck in Coin & Treasure Mode set in All Metal-AM. If you get +2 or higher dig it, someone said they heard a nugget came up as -2 but I cannot say that is true. You may only want to dig +6 and higher depending what kind of trash(foil) your are encountering and what size of nuggets you are willing to sacrafice(EXPERIMENT). After rechecking in C & T Mode if you get no signal then dig it up because it is too deep for this Mode.

Your elliptical coil gets the best depth on about -1 gram and smaller nuggets which are the most common sizes, but may also consider getting the round 10.5" HF(18.75 kHz) DD coil for gold prospecting for getting the best depth on nuggets of about +1 gram and bigger if you are after larger and deeper gold.
