720 crusty pennies to clean, any advice?

DigitRich,

I've been tossing most of my zinc pennies. The rest I swirl in soapy water and toss them in a coinstar machine. Not worth the time to clean IMHO.

It might be a good thing to call the local/state historical society about the cannon; it's probably going to need some professional preservation work once it gets out of the salt water or it will just corrode to hell. Not sure what the rules would be anyhow on recovering something like that privately.

But what a cool find.

Chris
