8.5 inch Crossfire 2 coil on the 1350 GTP........................

Ivan

New member
................I'm told it will balance much better and give the detector a much less front-heavy feel. Has anyone done this??? I'm thinking of getting the coil but I have no way of trying it out before I buy it. Hoping some of you guys can give me your advice on this one. I do not like hipmounting ...so I am looking at this option to improve the weight/balance ratio. Thanks for your help!!!!

Remember this coil is not as sturdy as the current coil and is prone to falseing under certain conditions.

................you say the 8.5 Crossfire is prone to falsing????? That is important to me................under what conditions does it end up falsing??Would the new mineralization chip in the 1350 not take care of this??? Thanks.

Ivan,
I modified my 1350 some time ago. First change to lithium non rechargeable batteries, they are very light and last a very long time. Second i chopped off the large heavy handle and rubber coating and replaced it with a soft foam grip like on the ace 250. The handle holds the meter so the last inch is retained and screwed to the aluminium tube. Third buy an 8.5 inch round which is light. From memory I saved over a pound in total weight and the detector balances beautifully.

It falsed if you bumped it against anything and falsed over wet grass and often wouldn't handle high sensitivity settings to well..It's also easier to punch a hole in..Other than that it's a good coil. I still have mine. I don't know what the new chip will do since it may be tuned to the PROformance coil that all high end Garretts come with now.l. But when I tested the Proformance coil for Garrett I just plugged it in the the detector I had so there may be no issue with tuning except for the mineral chip equipped machines.

Do you have a Crossfire or are you planning to pick one up? You can check with Garrett to see if the 1350 with chip is tuned differently in regards to coils.
