A bit more on my experience with the SEF 10x12 vs. iron

I took the SEF out for another spin on sunday at the same site I'd pulled the large cent, flying eagle, etc from.
This time I started doing a grid at 90 degrees from what I'd done a couple days before.
Managed 2 more wheats, an 1881 indian, and a few other odds and ends. At least a couple of the non-ferrous targets I dug were in the same hole with nails, and in at least one case several nails if I recall correctly. I also found a nail with a small brass washer on it, and correctly picked it up as a mixed iron/non-iron target.

I also dug quite a few iron signals that falsed with a high tone. In some cases they were multiple nails in the same hole.

Your mileage may vary, but I'm pretty happy with it's performance in moderate iron. (whether 3 nails in a hole qualifies as moderate is a debate for another day. At least it ain't 6.)

Chris, so you are running with FE coins checked, correct?

I noticed that you said 10x12 on the coil.. Others list 12x10... Are coils measured by width and then height? My Joey coil is 5x10, so the width is 5 inches and the height is 10 inches. So then if I say 12x10 then that says the width is 12 and the height is 10  Anyone know the answer on how they actually measure coils or does it depend on the manufactor?

most everyone else was using the pro coil.

When both these coils first came out....I did some side by side comparisons...and decided to stick with the sef coil over the pro coil.
I was amazed at what I was able to pop out of the ground over the next few months.

I have since been having some major elbow problems though...so I have been putting some time on the pro coil.

I also love the WOT coil...but I have to use the Swingy Thingy to use it...which truly keeps my elbow from pounding.

I'm not really sure if there's a standard order for listing the dimension of a coil. In any event the SEF is longer than it is wide, so the 12 inch dimension is obviously the length.

I don't check FE-coins (which I would assume is for coins with ferrous content like those of canada), rather I run no discrim at all (wide open screen, nothing blacked out at all). I use ferrous tones and dig anything that gives a high tone without the cursor being at the bottom of the screen. (You really have to use ferrous tones to run open screen, since highly conductive iron targets would all give a high tone when using conductive tones)
