If you like to tinker and manually learn your machine and it's inner most workings in order to become the best with it, buy the SE, if you just want to press a button and go, buy the ETrac.
So far it sounds like the SE is the better choice if you like to hunt in ferrous mode. I hunt in conduct but why did Minelab give almost everything a ferrous # of 12 which I am sure even in the cross-hair screen its going to hit in the same ferrous line. And now I just read where Jim wrote that in conduct the highest tone on coins on the Etrac is not as high as in prior Explorers. Anybody got a SE with the Pro coil for sale?
I like the SE, but dont feel its actually any better than the II... Also The II pinpointing is so much easier if you actually use it in high trash and iron .. the Pro with VCO is very hard to use as is the Etrac in high trash.. where the simple blip of the II you could tell there were many targets under the coil.. instead of one big signal.. I mainly pinpoint in disc mode, so not that big an issue, but those ones that your thinking you have something good next to trash you really cant hear the two targets on this new pinpoint mode, just one big one.. where you got distinct blips on the II, making the decission to dig much easier, when you could hear the multiple close targets
I was really hoping that was one of the pinpoint modes they had for the etrac, but nope. maybe on the Etrac II?
Right now I have the Pro, II and Etrac... was thinking of selling the II if I like the Etrac enough.. but now I am thinking I may keep it a while before I make any rash decisions.. resale is not the best right now.. too many people dumping their explorers for the new machine.. I think quite a few will be sorry.. not because of performance but the versitality the explorer has in ferrous mode
Eighteen Explorers have appeared on Ebay in the last past two weeks and there are six up for grabs right now on Ebay.co.uk.
