We all know gold is at an all time high. Lately I've sold a few gold coins and scrapped most of my jewelry. I certainly did not plan to buy any gold at these levels. Yesterday a co-worker phoned me and was very excited. She said she had found some coins in an old box and asked if I would look at them for her so she could get an idea of what they might sell for. It was a nice find and I ended up buying it all including some nice gold coins. I am very fond of this girl so I did not low ball her. I got the coins at a good price and she got more than she would have selling them at the coin shop I frequent. This is just the gold. There were some nice silver coins too. I used my 2009 clad to buy it all. Even had a few hundred left over.

I sold the one in the upper left (1880 $5 gold piece.) I'm keeping the two bottom coins (1899 $5 gold piece & 1929 $2.50 gold piece.) I am probably going to sell the 1881 $5 gold piece. I know I can't technically post this part here (in my defense, it is the only place all you Garrett guys congregate and I would like somebody here to receive what I think would be a fairly good deal) but if anybody has been thinking about turning some of their cruddy old clad into some old US gold I am entertaining offers for the coin in the upper right, the 1881. It would probably grade VF or higher. There is some wear but most of the fine details are there. I might try it on the classifieds where I would post a price that will be higher than I'd offer it to a Garrett "regular".
