On the way back from taking Jason to work yesterday morning,I came around a curve in the highway, and in the middle of my lane was a fawn deer that had fallen on the pavement, apparently trying to cross the highway following Mom......When I got out of the truck to check on the baby,I noticed what must have been Mom deer about 50 yards into the woods, watching me. I thought Junior was dead, but as I approached;he opened his big brown eyes and looked at me.Poor little feller was all skinned up from falling on the pavement, wasn't more than a day or 2 old:spots on him,all long legs.......NOW,it is a known fact that if animals smell human scent on their baby, they might abandon them, sealing their fate,AND you need a wildlife rehab license;to take them home,SO:I got an old flattened cardboard box out of the back of my truck, shoved it under Junior, and gently pulled him off the highway, and rolled him onto the grass/dirt shoulder....We drove by there last night,he was gone,as was Mom............I hope Junior has a long, free life;amen.
