i have quite a few indian head /buffalo five cents from the 1920's and 30's are these solid silver or are they what you call clad

made 1913 till 1938...

All nickels with the exception of the 1942 to 1945 Jefferson nickels are a mixture of 75% copper and 25% nickel. The 1942 to 1945 Jeffersons are 56% copper 35% silver and 9% manganese. The "silver" Jeffersons can easily be distinguished by the large mint mark above the dome. Clad refers to coins other than pennies and nickels produced after 1964 which have a pure copper core with a copper/nickel outer layer. There are a few exceptions for certain coins where special issues were made of silver. Info is from the Red Book of united states coins. I hope this helps.
