A cool old find

But it would have been cooler if it was filled with change from the era it came from. Read a steady 8-12 on the screen, that's why you have to dig it all!

Beautiful!

Funny thing was my first flitting thought was--they found chain mail?!

Nice find!! It must be a common trend to find these (as rare as they are to find) and have them be EMPTY! Mine was complete, closed and packed with solid dirt. I thought, there has to be some money in there!! Nada, zilch, zero!!! Who would carry around an empty purse (a smart lady I guess - make him pay for everything!). Yours looks sterling? Mine was plated. Circa 1910. The newer buckle and the 1859 Seated half were found there too. Nice finds and definitely a good reason to dig iffy targets!! Congrats!!! HH

A friend of mine found one in an old Ladies park. Was leather and the clip on top. Only a little piece of leather left. Had the coins in the hole too. All Barbers if I remember right.
Great find in itself there Jeff, Silver and copper or all silver I'm guessing? and looks Victorian. Would be great to see what was in it. Maybe you should go back and recheck the hole. Might be some GOLD in there. :clapping:

Great find Jeff!!

It's hard to believe it wasn't filled with change from that era, but based on your level of finds, you'll find that change sooner or later (probably sooner!)

Continued success....

That would have had Barber for sure in it, if not Seated Coinage. At least it's in great shape still and intact. Great piece to add to your collection. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

the contents of the purse behind. Congrats on the very old find.

Thirty some years ago I found a small chain link purse in a park, had 2 indian head pennies in it. Purse was silver plated bronze or copper, links had no strength left.

I agree, I'd go back and recheck the area:detecting:
