a couple of good finds in laast 2 weeks.

I found a token last week at my buddies house...good for 5 cents at the 1941 strawberry festival in paducah ky. Yesterday i found an 1827 capped bust dime at an old methodist church founded @ the same time here in paris, tn....no pictures, sorry.

Also, a week or so ago i posted that i thought that when i set up in all metal thatthe threshold carried over into the disc. mode but i was wrong. What i have found is that for some reason there are days when my T2 seems to be more sensitive or i can hear more faint signals than at other times even with the same settings. Also, some days i have more difficulty pinpointing than others. It isn't a problem as i always find it with my pinpointer. For example today i am hunting the methodist church again and i get a sold signal at @ 5 inches with a reading of 83/84. I dug a hole 6 inchies deep and still reading inte hole...i widened my hole and lost my reading so i refilled the hole and mashed it down and rechecked it an i get the reading again??? Any ideas???

HH and thanks for reading.

I still think your performance issues are ground balance relaited. Could be wrong though it could be your ground. I usually turn my machine on, set it to my hunting settings, then swing it over the ground till I find a spot with no audio and no VDI numbers on the screen. Thats where I ground balance it. I only pump until the numbers settle down. Maybe 5-7 times and usually let it sit right on the ground on the down swing. Everyones got there own style.
As for the missing target I have had that happen to. Usually when you get that signal dig it up and the signal vanishes it is two things. One the target is small and is now up on edge or flipped around to a spot where the detector will not pick it up unless you move it. Much like filling in the hole again. The second is a spot with some remenants or halo of a long gone or rusted away target. When you dig and air hits that spot it breaks up the halo and the target disappears

Thanks for the info Jeff, I agree that the sensitivity changes are related to GB, most of the areas i hunt have a wide swing in the mineralization levels, ie: from a reading 0f 40 to 70 within a 6 foot area is quite a jump. Also, I used to detect a lot in the 80's and i ran into several instances where i dug a hole for the target and lost my signal and what i discovered was the coin laying in the bottom of the hole and why the detector didn't pick it up i don't know. I also had the crumbling metal thing happen you described. I am going to go back and check the spot again as i ran out of time the other day so i had to abandon it till later. Thanks.

Jeff explained it pretty well. Sometimes you will lose the signal and you dig that last little bit of loose dirt in the hole and there it is, out of the hole. Some times it will be something very small or thin. I have dug a hole and nothing then fill it in and there it is again, and dig the hole again and find something small. I have at times dug a hole and nothing then spread the dirt around and get the signal again. Usually if I get a good pinpoint something it will be there. very small pieces of aluminum will do that. The T2 will detect very very small items that can be hard to find when you are passing it over the coil and keep dropping it.
