A Couple Pieces Of Silver From Yesterday...

My buddy Karl and I hit a farm field for a few hours yesterday morning. I was using my Explorer SE with the 12.5" coil and Karl was using his Quattro (that used to be mine) with the stock 10.5" coil.

I got two wheaties and Karl got a wheatie and a flat button. In the silver department, I got a 1913 Barber dime and Karl dug a 1929 Standing Liberty Quarter...his first silver coin...go Karl!

I agree!!! Congrats!!

I've NEVER found one of the little critturs......

Great stuff. I'd be thrilled to death on either one of those, and I'm excited that the Quatro was "in on it" for Karl. I still think they're both great detectors, his and yours, but it gives me confidence that the Quatro can still come through also. Thanks for sharing that Mike. Great stuff.!!!!!.:twodetecting:

They are a beautiful coin. One of my favorites. That and the Walking Liberty Half. You can tell that back then they took some real
pride in the designing of a coin. Not like the junk we make today.

Here's one of my nicest looking Standing Liberty quarters...dug it in a park a few years ago.

That's a beauty, Mike. I'm so old:crazy::(:|, I used to get a few of them in change, but not any more, and even then, most of them were pretty worn out. Those look like they're in pretty darn good shape. Beautiful coins, and I agree, with you on the designing stuff. I really loved the old buffalo head nickels. Marc.

Thanks JT! I'm real happy with my Canon A620 and the NICE close-ups it takes...that's the main reason I got it.

Yeah, those Buffalo nicks are cool, but the problem I have is I've dug a BUNCH of them over the years (and more 1937's than anything, it seems) but most of them look like a bag of smashed ass...our soil here is not friendly to old copper coins and nickels.

You would probably like THIS, which I think is a beautiful coin. I was going to get one with all that gold I traded in to the refinery this past summer but I couldn't bring myself to pay over $600 for it. But I DO like it!

Chris, it's very possible. Mike Moutray suggested the same on the Explorer forum. Could be, but I'm not sure. Look at my response to his post and the additional pics and see what you think.

Boy that's a beauty! All it takes is bucks, hugh? I really do love your close ups, Mike. That camera is a "gem" and your getting really good lighting on the shots too. Keep it up dude!!!! I love to see em.:| Marc.

Boy, Mike, for 600 bucks plus, they ought to deliver it to you in person. It's a beasutiful coin, but holy smokes, it must be solid gold to cost that much. I don't blame you for waiting on that one.

Of course it's solid gold...1 ounce worth, 24K. And it's worth whatever the cost of an ounce of gold is on any particular day. Which is now about $670. Here's some more info...

You bet it's gold, as you say, and your only making sense. Jeezzz, what was I thinking about? I don't think gold plate could ever cost that much, but, now,,,,, here's my next "nagging question":|, and I say nagging, because I think I was "nawing" over this one a year or so ago, but "WHAT IF", you guys, that are finding the real gold rings, just took them down and melted them or tried to sell them for scrap gold, I know your gonna probably take a "loss", versus some gold one ounce bar you buy somewhere, or are you? How does that stuff work out, you know that comercial on TV where they tell you to "send in" all your old scrap gold and get a nice big check for it? (I gotta wonder about that one), but heck, in reality, I don't really know what the market is on that stuff. Just wondering?:twodetecting::ban:

Dude, you should get out more!

Glad you got out. It won't be long here. It actually has just started melting and should continue melting this week.

That SLQ is in good condition. It's nice you both got a decent keeper too.

Bob

Holy cow...SNOW! We got a little snow (very little) here twice I think so far this winter. NOTHING that stuck. I'd like to see one decent 6 to 12" snowfall this year...just one. We're the ones that are always on the edge and get rain. Oh, we get it sometimes...I remember in '89 when we got 18", but it's rare. Gonna be a mess when that all melts!
