A couple questions on Safari

Member
I have about 10 hrs on the Safari so far and I have a couple questions.
I'm satisfied with the speed of the safari while not as fast as my old CZ-5 but respectible
One thing I have noticed is after you get the sound of the target it takes a few swings for it to read correctly on the meter.
Lets say you just swept over a pulltab that registers 20 then a couple swings later you hit a coin at say 37, the first few swings over the coin it still reads 20 but the tone is sweet, then it resets and reads the right number. Is this just an inherent feature of the machine, or is there someway I can get it to be faster on the VDI number.
One more question...Setting the sensitivity is kinda vague in the manual. How do you know if you are in auto sensitivity vs. manual sensitivity. I noticed the Auto Box/Icon never goes away in the sensitivity menu.
Thanks in advance
I'm liking the machine so far, just need to get more hours on it and experiment a little

i can't find a picture of the safari screen. if its the same as the explorer xs with the sensitivity gauge on the left side there will be a line circling the sensitivity number when its in auto. click on the arrow to the left of the box to change from auto to manual.

I have a Quattro. Maybe the Safari is the same. Enter the sensitivity mode and push the "+" button till you see 20(max manual sensitivity). Then push the "+" one more time and "auto" should come up on the screen.

I noticed the same thing when I first got my Safari. It's like the screen does not keep up with the detector's processor speed. I seem to notice it occurs more often after I've been detecting a particular spot for a while and I've moved over quite a bit of ground and haven't noise canceled. So I make it a habit to noise cancel every fifteen or twenty minutes of detecting. Seems to help.

Just go into the menu, then into sensitivity, and if you see a number you're in manual sensitivity. Push the + all the way up past twenty and your in auto sensitivity, but I don't recommend using auto.

Hello Chuck,
The screen on the Safari and the Quattro are exactly the same. The button covers are a little different but the rest is the same.

Thats the way these machine work. They switch over kinda slow depending on the amount of trash in the area and targets available. You must listen for good targets dimes quarters nickels pull tabs and foil if you want the gold.
