a few thoughts on the American Axle/UAW strike...

I just got word that the GM assembly center in Hamtramck,Mi shut down today because of the American Axle/UAW strike, they cant get parts for their cars...The head of our union called and asked me if I wanted a 2 week temporary layoff-The whole painted-plastic production of my co. is at a standstill... I turned it down ;anyway...THEN he said"In 2 weeks after this temporary layoff;if that strike isnt settled;the odds are good a WHOLE BUNCH of people are facing an indefinite layoff-and you are in the bunch that will be laid off"... American Axle insists they have to cut their employees'wages and benifits 50%-While their top man makes$9 MILLION...Being a UAW employee;this is my view on it:TO THE UAW:DO NOT ROLL OVER AND PLAY DEAD ON THIS ONE-such a TOTAL insult to the working man.If that strike shuts every GM plant in the world;so be it...If I get laid off and in danger of losing everything,so be it...I dont know how those executives sleep at night;greedy potlickers that they are...
