I hit a random spot in the Woods today and got lucky with 10 Wheaties and a Silver 1935 Mercury Dime, well worn but still beautiful! Most of the coins were a pocket spill under a Juniper along a dry creek. The Duck pin was found across the creek in an old road. It seems to be Copper, made by Mafco, who made enameled pins. It's missing the pin, and it probably started out life straight, though I rather like it as it is. Oh, and the two rusty orbs were probably steel pennies?? I can't make anything out on them, think I'll put them back in the CLR to soak for a day or two. And the Wheat dates are: 1928-S (2), 1939-D, 1940 plain, 1940-S, 1941 plain, 1942-D, 1944-S (2), 1944-D. I think the little Copper doodad was a button.
This is the tree that I found most of the coins under-
I also found some items to get any detectorists heart rate up -- several latches and buckles -- they were in the creek. Sadly, I didn't find any treasure chests, but I'll poke around some more next trip, optimist that I am!

Thanks for looking and luck in the hunt to all!!

And the locals idea of erosion control is to dump their trash & used appliances in them, heh. I was pleased with that hunt because I REALLY didn't have any expectation of finding anything much, just felt like hanging out in the woods. I had just gotten started, when I had a hypo-glycemic thing, so I sat down to eat the lunch I packed and then grabbed the ProPointer and HEY, there's coins under here!!! Oldies, even!! That was the most wheats I snagged on one hunt, and I love the Mercs, so it really felt like a gift. Sorry for rambling on...Just got home from a ghost town, but that'll be another story - mostly recon and just a couple goodies today, but got a few new sites lined up and did some iron removal that should make it easier going next trip.
