A Five Silver Day :super:

Still can't believe it. It was too nice outside, so I arranged some time off and found a park. I've hunted this place several times before, but not so much with the SE and wanted to try it out there. I headed for one spot that just seems like it should hold some goodies (and trash), and figured I poke along and try to focus on only deeper signals.

Well, that strategy apparently worked OK today. After finding a Wheat, I found the first silver. Then in fairly quick succession I found four more! I thought I'd found a sweet spot, so started doing tight patterns, but then it dried up. I got one more deep hit, and it turned out to be two Wheats stuck together back to back, with a third Wheat hanging in the same hole. Cool.

The only problem was that this spot had lots and lots of roots from nearby trees, and recovery of the deeper ones was tough. I managed to slip off one of the roots and nicely scratch the front of the nicest dime! :veryangry: Oh well, I was probably due, as I haven't done that in quite awhile. Just glad it wasn't a real good one.

Found one more Wheat, then started a pattern back to my vehicle. Almost got there and was just kinda skimming the coil along by my side in a straight line (I call it 'trolling') when I got a higher tone blip. I stopped and fished around a bit for it, and it sounded good and depth was decent. Turned out to be a Wheat. Then I probed again, and was still getting a tone, so out came another Wheat. Closed up the flap, scanned with the coil - oops! Another signal. Opened it back up and was trying to find it with the probe when I got the dreaded 'battery is about to die' tone from the SE. I knew I had about 30 seconds left, so I just started scooping dirt and checking with the probe, and got the target out and under the probe right as the SE shut down!. It was yet another Wheat, bringing the total for the day to eight. I thought the timing was superb. And it was dark to boot, so that's all there was.

Nothing great in the Wheats, although there was a '25 and a '27, with the rest being '37-'46 range. Most have a crud on them, so they're soaking in hot peroxide this time.

Had a great time, and really felt like I got in the zone. Now I've got a pretty good sense of what to listen for in this park, so look forward to hitting it again. (And just wait, I'll get skunked).
