A gold ring with an 9 ID?

Goldstrike

Well-known member
I have never detected a gold ring that I.D'ed at 9. For me, that is foil almost 99% of the time. I detect in A.M. most of the time, even in the trashiest spots because I don't want to miss any targets when my Safari nulls out when discriminating (even though I go low and slow) and I do not discrim; that number out. I still may dig it if it seems a different tone to what a 9 usually sounds but virtually it's foil all of the time which is weird because 10 and above and also 8 and below can be gold numbers. I would be shocked if you have detected a ring that registered 9!!!!

Hi surf n turf. I was just saying that I have not found a gold ring that I.D-ed at 9 on my Safari. I have paid particular attention this past week to #9 signals and would dig them and sure enough, they have almost always been foil!.....flat foil, balled or wadded etc;
NOW...I wish that there WAS a number that could always be consistently GOLD! just like the number 9 almost always being foil but I do realise gold rings come in all different configurations i.e. carat, size,weight, with and without stones, unlike silver rings on the other hand which seem to be consistently 38-39 virtually regardless of size and weight. An interesting subject to think about!
I am still confident that my nephew who has worked on laser systems worldwide and is a true 'science' guy, can hopefully come up with a system/detector that can detect only gold and discrim everything else, especially pull tabs!! He is still working on it and I've told him that I will give him big dollar # amount when he designs this detector. I can but dream though and dreams do not cost anything!!!!

Goldstrike, do you remember that post I made, currently at the top of page 2, that said "park hunters, do you want to find gold rings? In a response in that section, I said two of the women's gold rings I found read 9, so yes I have found gold rings at that number.

Old lobo...........yes, you did post that!!! which goes to prove I'm still on the learning curve! I probably haven't found a ring at 9 before, solely because I have assumed all along it was another foil target. I guess I'll be digging 9 from now on!!
I have a question....can you remember if the rings that you found at #9 sounded any differently to a foil target or did they sound more like a solid/ring/nickle signal?

Boy im slow today was reading your post and was thinking A.M. huntin and not wanting to miss anything im thinking what does a morning hunt have to do with signals? HA HA All metal I got it now.

I have seen from testing a lot of peoples rings.....mainly wives making sure their rings are real under a detector test :rofl: if it wasnt....id probably just walk away slowly....

but anyways, i have seen a number of womens rings on the minelabs read the lower 8-10 range. same with platinum (one customers wife had a platinum wedding ring to test for me) womens rings. Most mens and some womens rings will read normal around that 16-18 range. Not sure the actual reason, maybe the fact that they use different material to form the womens rings and help in strength since they are thinner?

really sucks a lot of trash read the same numbers as these beautiful targets.

Thanks KellycoBrad for those comments. You mentioned about the Plat I.D. which reminded me of this plat ring I detected off a beach and it read a solid 21! I think the I.D. numbers are are great indicator of what's below the coil but part of the whole equation. The tones combined with the I.D. will give a truer idea but it's only when you dig and retrieve that will show you what it really is. When I come across a target with an I.D. of 9 usually it's a fuzzy, scratchy signal indicating foil which I'll almost certainly ignore but in the future, if I get an I.D. of 9 and more of a solid signal. I'm digging!

Ya, well she said it was plat, and it was a small ring since she had tiny fingers, that looks like a mans ring, I really have had no other plat rings to test other than that 1, but it did hit a low tone strangely enough. It really is interesting seeing that there are so many different tones out there for so many targets. It really is surprising.

Edit: I've read your other posts in the other thread and seeing gold come up upper 20's and rarely someone saying low to mid 30's is a bit crazy. Really makes you think, what are you really missing when you think that gold can not be above that magic 22-24 area. I just know, on the beach, I dig up everything.

fwiw, I found a white gold diamond engagement ring for 'lostmystuff.com' that rang up as a 9.
