A Good Weekend

A weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. Good days with the Omega.

Lots of pulltabs, sharp can slaw, and bottle caps on broken glass. Also some clad, and a dogtag. Also a plastic decoration, found on the surface.

Then up comes a Minie ball, about 6 inches down. It came in at 51 on the Omega.

Jacksonville did see some Civil War action, but it's recorded as happening in areas away from where I was detecting. Maybe it was a moving skirmish.

I was thinking that maybe it wasn't from a Civil War action. Maybe some guys still had their rifles and some Minie balls, years after the war. Maybe into the 1880s or 1890s? For hunting?

That's cool,,, congrats on the bullet!!

Thank you! After all the clad, it made a good weekend.

In the original message above, I wrote the wrong VDI number. Actually it rang in between 61-71 on the Omega. Also tested it at home, with the same numbers on the Gamma.

I still wonder how a Minie ball was found miles away from the "reported" sites of the Civil War skirmishes here. Maybe they had other brief skirmishes that didn't make the news.

Were they still being used in the years after the war, like the 1870s to 1890s? Hunting? Law enforcement?

Joe
