A GTI 1500 question

Nimrod

Active member
is there and old and new version of the GTI 1500? I have been looking at getting a used one and some have a thick white coil on them and others have a thinner black coil on them. Also, I thought I remember reading somewhere that there was a firmware upgrade or some kind of improvement on the one with black coil. Can someone set me straight on this?

There was a recent upgrade (June 2007) on the GTI 1500, and thee new coil looks like this. The upgrade allowed the GTI 1500 to handle much higher mineralization then previous. That same upgrade was also included with the GTI 2500 and the GTP 1350. It has been out for about 3 years. It is more stable then the older white one and therefore can be run at a higher sensitivity.

There were a couple of each type available, I purchased one with the black coil. I am currently the proud owner of a Garrett GTI 1500.:D

The new ones have the solid PROformance coil and a new mineral chip installed. But the original coil works just fine. I use it all the time in preference to the solid coil. If you feel you need the mineral chip Garrett will install it for about forty bucks.

Hey Nimmy you made a wise choice and got one of the best coinshooters around. Yours may be equipped with the new chip. You can email the serial number to Garrett and they can tell you. Send an email to Melinda.Harper@garrett.com

Let us know how you do with your new toy. HH.
