A Horror story - hard to even conceive the implications of all this..

Pete in MI

New member
[size=medium]Our friend Heidi in Chicago (the one who wants to move to Michigan and has such a terrible time with one of the people in her condo unit) got a horrible bit of news. She is in her fifties. Been a nurse for almost all her life. Paid taxes like she is supposed to do every year. Her sister let her know I guess that there is a PROBLEM. Ya know those INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) government people who check on illegal aliens and the 'green cards'? Well she found out that she and her sister are illegal aliens. Her parents were from Germany and moved to Canada where her sister was born so she is Canadian - not American as she and everyone thought. The parents then came to the USA and became Naturalized Citizens. Heidi was born in Germany. So thinking because the parents were citizens Heidi and her sister were as welll. The sister (Canadian) is married to an American and so thought she was OK.

Nope neither one of them are in good standing with the INS. Seems all would have been alright had the parents (now deceased) filed papers after tey became Naturalized to include their children as their children. One has a Canadian birth certificate.and Heidi has a German birth certificate. I heard that had they filed the papers before the kids were 16 there would have been no problem. Now all these years later the INS tells them they have to take the courses to become Naturalized Citizens within a certain time frame or be deported back to the country each was born in. They both have Social Security cards and pay/paid taxes all these years to a government they now find is not their own. Heidi knows nothing about Germany and doesn't want to go there.

Sherry tells me the INS of our government is like Michigan's State Archaeologist...they can do whatever they feel like and not answer to anyone.

I cannot fathom all the implications of this. Wouldn't all the education she had in the USA both elementary, high school, college, etc. be enough to say she knows the American way? Does this mean that their votes in elections NEVER counted? Will they get the money due them for all the years of taxes paid into a system not their own and what of Social Security they paid into and will not see the money????

Heidi is beside herself with all this and so much more. Please pray the INS will make things right for them without all the hassles and hoops they can shove them through. After all these years they should automatically be U.S. citizens since neither has left this country and returned to their so called home lands. What a horrible horrible thing.

Hi Pete, I am Praying for these two sisters to stand strong and see this trial through with God working it all out for their good and His purpose! Don't know if they truly believe in Jesus, as their own personal Savior, but pray that they do or will very soon! Also, praying that the INS will get common sense and godly wisdom with understanding for these two sisters, who have been in the USA most of their lives with parents as citizens of America! Amen!

Sure seems unfair if they must be deported because babies born to illegal immigrants, who are not citizens, become naturalized citizens by coming across the border and being born in the US instead of Mexico or any other country! What a mess our nation is in! The only time that the children should become naturalized citizens is when the parents are naturalized citizens of the USA. They keep murderers here and make good people leave! Such a shame too....may God help all of us and them, too! A  situation! God Bless! Betty

Praying for them both. Sometimes the government red tape gets in the way. If you want something messed up, get the government involved.

I'll say Amen to your post DK.....Gov't is too BIG and too many ruling without common sense, or are self-centered or don't know what the other departments are doing! May God have mercy on us and America! God Bless! Betty

This was his response. Basically, he was saying that maybe your friends didn't get the story right?

I don

Best bets:

1. Get their congressman on their side.
2. Get letters of reference to their congressman and lawyer.
3. Get the local press and big city press on in the story.
4. Get this out in Blog-land with constant updates.
5. Start studying for the naturalization test.....
6. Do not stop 1 through 5 until this is resolved.

Had the same surprise myself. They only have to slow down the process long enough to pass the naturalization test. With prayer they just might get a shot at citizenship without being deported (which will only complicate the situation!).
