....got out to one of the only Rev War encampments in Maine. For all the histor we have in NH and Maine we did not see any action in either the Rev War or the War of 1812. However Maine had a small battle across a small river with Colonial soldiers on one side and British troops on the other. Believe me this river aint the Mississippi either....you could toss a bowling ball across it.
The Todd and I have hit this over the years and did real well. So I hiked back into this secluded spot to see what I could scrape up. There were little encampments all around so the taregts are sorta in small areas.
Managed to scrounge a well worn KGII and 3 buttons and this decent little 1789 French Cayenne 2 Sous.
Some of you have found these little silver coins....but for those of you who have not they were minted in Grenada I believe during the reign of Loiux XVI of France. However they used such poor grade of silver and were seriously underweight that the king ordered them destroyed. However they did not and many made it to the US. The called them Black Dogs as they would darken quickly and loose any silver appearance....I think they cut the silver with copper I believe or could have been nickel but anyway they cut the silver with another cheaper metal that causes them to turn dark.
This one was scrubbed hard with a brass brush just to get it to this color.
They are neat little coins and I find a few eacdh year.....mainly because they ID as foil and most people ignore them...but in old colonial sights you must dig foil.....!!!
Also....got to talk to The Todd for an hour and a half tonight....The Todd is doing fine. The Garv Man is coming back in a few weeks for a visit and we are all going for a reunion hunt....gonna have to drag Brandy out too!!
