A LITTLE HELP FROM THE GAMMA EXPERTS PLEASE!

SC Dirt Fisher

New member
Took the new Gamma 6000 I bought for my wife out for the first time. Trying to learn the machine so I can teach her how to use it because she's really a novice.
I have read the manual throughly so the ground balance using the GROUND GRAB feature worked quite well. But, being used to a DFX, I could not get it to quiet down like the DFX. I had the discrimination set all the way up to a dime, but still got a lot of falseing. I did find some pennies, 2 dimes and a quarter by digging very repeatable signals only. It's just all the noise in between that concerns me. The ground balanced at at 76 and the sensitivity was on 70.
Questions.
1. Will I get reasonable depth with those settings?
2. A lowercase "d" appeared on the display each time I picked the detector back up from digging a target. Is this normal?
Any helpful comments appreciated!

Hello Dirt Fisher,

The gamma is a great detector but can be erratic if around any power lines. Or under ground sprinklers or near metal fencing. Trashy areas too.

I would try backing off the sensitivity until it quiets down. Even at 40 or 50 the gamma gets good depth.

I found that starting out GB with the coil on the ground. Hit the GB button and it should tune to the correct GB without pumping.

I hope this helps.

Have a good one, ldweber51
