Spent most of the day hunting with Tim he got a silver Rosie and a wheat , I ended up with these beauties. Going to work on the nickels with my technique and then post an after pic but it will take a couple of weeks. The small gold item has a stone in the front that looks like a cats eye but I'm not sure what kind of jewelry it is.

You always do so well in the field.

for me its more about the sound. the smart find shows along the bottom, but they have a certain sound.

On my SE the nichols read 10-6 to 12-6 always hit 6 on conductive side unless real deep then sometimes 10-5 so I always dig the 10-5 thru12-6 signals. The tone is usually a round sounding low tone, and the cursor on the smart find screen is just barely above the bottom line and above the word _on_ in the pinpoint spot of the screen. I hope I am not confusing anyone. This is where they hit on mine.

What kind of technique are you trying on them Nickels? You can wait until you post the after pics if you want. Congrats on the Gold Item and the Barber and Merc. Hope you keep finding more goodies on your next outing. Good Luck and HH!:detecting:

My hat is off to you fellers' diggin' those nickel hits buddy. That shows how hard you're workin' for the finds. Great digs...keep it up.

Hey James, I did a post a while ago on my cleaning technique, its pretty neat really. First I put the nickel in vinegar and soak it for about a week then I flip and soak it for another week, by that time it should be cleaned of all of the pink and black that is on them but there is a grainy type finish to them so I buff them with my dremmal buffing wheel and compound until I am satisfied with the results. This should make them look like a good used nickel. here is a pic of another I worked on it was in about the same condition when I started. Hope this helps, I know there is no value when its done but I think that they are in better shape than when I started.
