I presently use a fisher 1236,which is great.I have read nearly every post on this forum,to gain as much info on the cz3d and the 70 pro as possible.
It seems apparent that these two models are not good at discrminating out iron or pull tabs, considering there high price.Surely fisher should make sure iron atleast is not a problem to avoid, and we all know what a pain digging up pull tabs are.
I was very tempted by the cz3d,as i prefer its controls. But if it cant reject iron,i will have to have a re think.
This post is not a pop at fisher as i think there great machines, and i use one regularly. UKman

UKman,
How does the 1236 do over there on items like small rusty nails, do they sound good? I never dug much large iron with the 1236 but it does give that nice whisper sound on some small and deep rusty iron,
If you have the CZ GB'd properly and swing it slow most iron is not a problem. I dug no more or less than with a lot of other detectors.
The Coinstrike likes to give a good signal on larger iron that is deep like axe heads ect but you can tell they are large. There is a learning curve but the C$ has become one of my favorites for ignoring iron and finding good stuff mixed in.

You should consider what type of detecting you mainly do. Half the country are happy with their Tesoros as they mainly detect ploughed so want a lightweight machine with a very fast response and quick shut down between targets. Depth is not a priority. While I like the Fisher CZ6a I would not use it on ploughed, or an iron infested Roman site where most motion machines will be outperformed by an old IB/TR non discriminator.
The Coinstrike has a problem with ground conditions in some areas and the CZ's are slow to use if you want to use higher levels of sensitivity where tricks such as comparing the position of the target in discrim. and all metal to see if its moved come in. Use a CZ at lower sensitivity and most problems are solved.
No one in the U.K.,even on the beach, tries to avoid ring pulls as we have so many wanted items that come into the pulltab range.
If you are mainly working pasture the 1270 is a great machine especially at the new reduced price but it will not tackle the wet sand like the CZ's.

I think my CZ5 was a little hotter on iron than my 70, but I rarely dig iron. Just an occasional deep square nail that doesn't give the distinctive double beep when pinpointed comes to mind. Really any iron I've dug has probably been an iffy deep signal - could be iron, could be a deep small coin. My decision to dig or not is based on what the machine is telling me. I figure that's a good sign, as I'm maxing out the depth. No machine is going to eliminate iron completely. The thing you probably won't like most about the CZ is the different tones. Heck, if you buy it and learn it, and really don't like it, sell it. Nice thing about detectors is if you keep them in good shape they keep their value, especially if you don't pay full retail to begin with. Why not look for a used machine?

Like i said i am not having a pop at fisher detectors, they are good. And my 1236 gives a tone with a spitting at the end when most iron is found, and for the money the 1236 is excellent value. But considering the price difference between the 1236 and the czs,a person might expect the czs discrimination to be far better than the 1236.
As i am sure you know most people in the uk detect on plough and pasture land, and most like myself very rarely visit a beach. And why wouldnt i like the cz tones, are they totally different from the 1236 ???.
Just before i go,i had a go of a quattro the other day and found 1 modern coin.2 aluminium cans at about 10inch,and an array of junk.So maybe i would be better off with a cz,thanks for the replies. UKman

Heck used CZ's since 92 and still learn a little more about it every day..First CZ6 was almost wrapped around a tree after digging 6 deep rusty nails, but now rarely dig any iron unless going after an iffy and that is rare..Just takes time to learn the language of a CZ and like any new detector expect many hours in the field before you become proficient..

UKman,
I too was very tempted by the controls of the 3d, along with the Enhanced mode.
For I am not crazy about anything digital.
But after CAREFUL consideration I chose the 70.
While deciding on a new machine I did not discrinimate . I considered ALL manufacturers and alot of different models. I considered quality build of machine, performance, warranty, nearest service center etc. Narrowed it down to Fisher then after an agonizing, gut wrenching debate with myself for 6 months (over winter)I chose the 70.
Cannot give you an honest opinion of the machine just yet, only been out with it a couple of times.
Good luck, Jay

i use a cz-5 for coins and rarely dig pulltabs and even less iron. the cz-3 in the salt mode would work the same.if you're wanting to get gold without getting pulltabs there are just too many that are in the same range to eliminate all the tabs.

:lol i have owned the 3zd about 2 weeks now and ive not had any if very little problems with iron or pulltabs.so far this has been a great machine.i also can say the same thing about my cz6a.

I agree with Dan you can tell if its a nail most of the time.

I have been digging a lot of nails lately but i'm in such a hot old coin spot it's worth the time and trouble to dig and i'm not suprized to see a nail pop out. Running a cz6a...

I say its a pity you have a misunderstanding about Fisher keeping up with how good their detectors work by upgrading performance on them over the years.

There seems to me to be less and less posts about iron with the newer models of cz then ever before. Its almost the only ones you may hear about cz and iron is some of the veteran users that are hung up on the older machines and seem to keep mentioning about czs loving iron .

I have a cz70Pro and have not have had problems with iron or notching out pulltabs either.

I have from the beginning since I purchased my Cz70Pro always wondered about the iron thing and thought it was over done by some. But now I believe it is probably more or less a thing of the past. as far as pulltabs I don't find any pulltabs for the most part but do find a pulltab that will masquerade as a nickel now and then but there is no way for any detector to tell those types of similar conductive objects apart.

Its a pity for sure your misunderstanding . Who has been making all these posts about pulltabs and iron. Probably someone who is more use to using the older models and still uses Mikes cz info that seems to be more related to the older models as I don't find as much to do with my cz70Pro as it finds less iron and does excelent on pulltab notching out. The good stuff in Mikes applies to coil manipulations , going slow trying for target separations and other handy metal detecting stuff. My cz70Pro Works just about like Nasa Tom says. Even he mentioned about finding iron but I believe he says its a rare thing. I have five different top grade detectors and they all will find iron . I find iron with my cz but also find good stuff with the iron also.Granted it takes much time to get to know any detectors language to become a real expert with them. I absolutely refuse to go along with anyone how says a new model cz has iron or pulltab problems if the cz is working correctly. I have a very powerfull magnet and have been able to attract ( dirt ) onto it at places I had problems with detectors and not only my cz. My cz is very senstive and accurate . Only one detector I have that for some reason or other will work ground others have problems with, and that is my Advantage.

Thanks for the reply dan and everyone else,if you look abit further down dan under new machine. You will see that i purchased a cz3d dispite what i said here, and i am very happy with it so far.Though i still have abit to learn about it,but i know its alot easier to understand than a goldmax or quattro.I have always liked fisher machines, and i hope i will have my 3d for a long time to come.
