A question about signals detected and what they're saying

Hi guys,

I've had my Deus now for about two weeks so just starting to learn what it's capable of doing. Something that has me scratching my head is this. I'm swinging the coil at a modest speed and get a good, strong repeatable signal. I turn 90 degrees and the signal is still repeatable. I click on the button to pinpoint the target and there is nothing there. I'm guessing this is iron falsing but want to ask those with experience to be sure.

When you activate the pinpointer - the coil needs to be away from any metal in order to get the right sensitivity. If you activate it close to metal, sensitivity is reduced - and this is my personal opinion, but...if you are hunting a trashy area it may be hard to pinpoint due to the many targets in the ground close to your coil. What works better for me is to get that strong, repeatable signal first - then turn 90 degrees and look for the strongest indication while sweeping the coil. You will have created an "X" (provided it's a pretty clear signal) while doing this and that is where you need to dig. There may be a video link somewhere on this forum that can show it better than I can explain it....

keep in mind that the pinpoint mode is not set the same way automatically as the search modes are. You need to take a look at the sensitivity and ground balance settings and adjust them before you switch to pinpoint each hunt. While the manual explains the various settings when selecting pinpoint it is a little confusing which is why add a chapter on that in my book.

If you have any specific questions on how to use pinpoint properly and it is a trick to set up properly, feel free to get in touch with me or post additional question which I will try to answer.
