A question for Vaquero and Compadre users :nerd:

Hi guys

I bought a Compadre some months ago for a back up and now I'm using it more than my main machine , the lightweight and simplicity of the Compadre is hard to beat.
I've been notice the great sensitivity this little machine has and I wonder if the Vaquero (with the same 5.75 coil) would beat the Compadre on depth and sensitivity to gold?

I would really like to read your opinions.

cheers

The Vaquero will give you more depth then the Compadre with similar coil. Then you asked if the Vaquero would beat the Compadre on sensitivity to gold. On gold laying on the surface or a few inches under they are probably close, with the compadre slightly better. But, and this is a big but.... the Vaquero will be more sensitive to deeper gold then the Compadre because the Compadre will never even detect it. If you are just detecting tot lots I would stick with the Compadre, but if you are going into parks and ball fields....buying the Vaquero would be worth the extra depth in my opinion.

thanks, I currently using the compadre on forest hunts, the small coil is excellent to use around bushes, but I always had curiosity about the Vaquero's performance

Thats also the difference in 12kHz compadre, versus 14.3 ,14.5 and 14.7 of the Vaquero.

interesting in some websites the Vaquero is recommended as a basic machine for gold prospecting

Hello,

I think that more depth on gold is not the point here.

You might get some gold rings deeper with the vaq.

But how deep are they, those rings? That deep?

No.

So, the Compadre with his low gain (Vaq is a HOT machine) will detect thin gold better than the Vaq. I am talking thin gold here, sub 2 or 3 grams.

Mine has a 8" coil an is still very hot on thin gold.

IMHO, the depth you get from the Compadre is sufficient for 95% of the gold jewelry buried down there; So the question is are those 5% left worth the investment?

that's an interesting way to look at this Nick

The Tesoro Vaquero hits really good on really thin gold rings using the 9 x 8 coil. The Tesoro Compadre hits better on really fine gold chains compared to the Vaquero with the 9 x 8 coil. I don't have a 5.75 coil to use as a comparison. I use the Compadre for tot lots and small trashy areas. The Vaquero will cover the larger areas a lot faster with the 9 x 8 coil.

You should own BOTH. :)

in the long round I thinks that I will end up buying the Vaq, on large extensions of land it would help doing it faster

I hope my compadre finds lots of gold rings to help the investment :detecting:

not an expert, but i wouldn't bet against the compadre findin' the deeper gold!
the reason is simple!..gold is a superior 'conductor" of electricity, and it's metal ''mass'
would present a stronger signal in the ground, than silver,or copper!..just sayin!
don't ever underestimate the ability of the compadre to find stuff!..i'll bet it will get down 6 or 7 "
or so,on a good gold ring!..darn detector is the "steal" of the century!

Well, get busy, because you're gonna really like the Tesoro Vaquero a whole lot.:)

there's another true aspect about depth, sometimes we detectorists put excessive importance on it, how many time we have assisted to an incredible find buried a few inches and made by a guy with low or medium range detector

excellent point!..has happened "tons" over the years!..just sayin!

That is EXACTLY why I got mine-and was then shocked to find it picking up my 10k wedding band at 8"! It goes deep on nickels and tabs!
