A question regarding the Garrett pinpointer

Old Katz

New member
I notice that a lot of times the depth indicator reads between 1 to two inches.
Before digging, if I put the pinpointer right down ON the ground would its signal
actually penetrate and detect the coin? That would make if much
faster for me to retrieve the coin or whaqtever
the item was.
For the kind of money a good pinpointer
costs I'd like it to be able to do that.....or am I asking for too much?

Katz

It does just that. 2 inches deep on most coin sized targets. I get a beep on my detector. I pull the Propointer out. Use it exactly vertical to locate the target. If the propointer just chirps like 2 times per second I know the target is at about 2 inches. If it screams I know it's right there in the grass or roots less than an inch. You will recover more targets per hour with less mess than you ever have before. More targets dug or popped during your hunt equals MORE good targets in your pocket!

Yep, it sure will. I was skeptical when i first got mine but after using it just like you described it does great. Especially on quarters and screw off bottle caps.

Well then I guess I better purchase one. I still have the little $15.00 one I bought
from Harbor Freight but I need something considerably better. Mine won't penetrate
the dirt.

My Harbour Freight one lasted for about 15 minutes of use before going belly up. The Garrett is a VERY BIG improvement.

I need to get rid of my white's and get a Garrett then because the whites won't.

I had a Bullseye. But the Propointer blows it away. Garrett's is auto adjusting, deeper and built better. You'll see!

That is exactly how I use mine and it has cut my recovery time to less than half the time. On a very productive site I have doubled my loot amounts!:garrett:

I do that all the time. Most times I will get a reading. I then use my screwdriver and pop the target out as quick as I can. It really saves time to know EXACTLY where a target is so you can retrieve it quickly, no matter which method you use. :)

Yes it will. I use it often to isolate shallow coins that are in a group and just give one large signal for the detector.

Yea, I ordered one today Monday 8/24. Should have it this Wed.
I was out hunting, useing the HH pinpointer and said "THATS IT!!!!!! I Done with you!"
Called a Md DEALER two states over from me and got it for $127. Dealer is paying
the postage. I'd have to pay an additional $7-10 for postage if I bought it from
Kelly Co.

Good for you Katz! Let us know how you like it when you get some time on it. I'm sure you will find it indespensible, I could hunt without one (I did for years) but now that I have used my Garrett PP I wouldn't hunt without it!:garrett:

That's exactly right.

From my experience, the worst thing about the Propointer is that you don't know that the batteries are going out until the unit starts wailing at you.

At that point you can turn the unit off for a spell and get a few more seconds of pinpointing when you turn it back on, call yourself a moron and remind yourself in the future to carry an extra 9V battery!

I always carry spare batteries in my bag for both my 1350 and my PP! I could just imagine me out hunting and having great results and BAM one or the other dies on me! I have actually had that happen once and I have carried spares ever since.:garrett:
