A question..............

I see that the 6000 and the 8000 has "Ground Grab."
What is Ground Grab and how is it different from ground balancing?

AND, for those of you who have owned the machines for awhile
how good are they?
Katz

Ground grab basically just simplifies the old school ground balancing method. Instead of turning knobs and listening to the threshold changes as you bob the coil up and down, the detector analyzes the threshold electronically while you bob the coil and makes the adjustment for you. At least, that's how I understand it, I could be wrong.

I had an F75 LTD and it seemed to work fairly well. The problem though, is that none of these detectors have automatic tracking, so you may have to ground grab constantly in some areas.

Hi Katz, I've had my 8000 since late January, 2010. I think it's good, but that's me. Ground Grab is the pad you press during the ground balance process. Very quick.

I'm a sucker for making it simple. I may have to
look into one of these machines one of these days.
Thanks.
Katz

simply an "auto-balance" function. You press-and-hold the Ground Grab touch-pad or push-button and bob the coil briskly from about 6'-8" down to about

Sounds really good. Too bad they didn't make one of these the 6000 or the 8000 with a 14 khz frequency then
it could be used for prospecting as well.

Is that what the T2 is for.

I have had my Omega only for a short while, but I'm loving it's lightness, ease of use, and above average depth.
It feels a bit flimsy compared to my Minelab Explorer SE. ( but a least i can still move my arm after a full day's detecting ).
Try and find a second hand one that works and give it a go. You'll get your money back if you don't like it no problem.

Dave.

Yea, I see the T2 operates at 13 khz. Does it also have the fast grab ? >These two Tek. models, for example, provide you with a Ground Phase read-out similar to the MXT in the Prospecting mode.< Is that the same for the the T2. I wonder how good of a gold machine it is.
Katz

yes it does have a fast grab feature but it is not called that. Instead of pushing a push pad, you push the toggle and pump the coil up and down. Same thing though.

Just to clarify my reply below, the Omega and Gamma have a Ground Grab function to allow the detector's circuitry to "auto-balance", and this is the same as the Teknetics' T2 Fast-Grab function. Same thing, just a different name.

Just as it is very common for me, and many others, to refer to Ground Balance, or the act of Ground Balancing a detector, First Texas tends to call it GC for Ground Cancel or the act of Ground Cancelling a detector. Same thing, just a different term.

I prefer the term Ground Grab since it really describes what information the circuitry is 'grabbing' to adjust to. Since I am probably going to add a T2 to my personal arsenal I've been re-reading the Owner's Manual and it refreshed my memory of their use of Fast Grab with the T2.
