after watching several training films about the garrett at gold in the parks,i was wondering why they didn't use concentric coils.shorely they would have perfomed better than the 5x8dd in discrimating out the trash.i have just got one and i will buy the concentric coil to suit to hunt in parks with.blowfly, see ya!!!

The DD is much better at getting around the trash than the concentric. The coil you want to get is the smaller 5x8 DD; it comes standard on the AT-Gold but is awesome on the AT-Pro. Just ask the guys here who already use it.

John Edmonton can show you a graphic of why the DD is better for trash than the concentric I'm sure. Only concentric I own is the tiny 4 1/2" hot coil I got today, I'm waiting on my 5x8 to arrive.

The AT Gold is designed as a gold detector and to operate in iron mineralised ground, therefore it is fitted with a DD coil as standard.
The AT Pro concentric coils will operate on the AT Gold but the Gold has 2 levels of iron disc only. The AT Pro would have been a much better choice as a coin and relic machine because it has much better discrimination characteristics and it comes standard with a concentric coil because these coils provide for more accurate discrimination than DD..Also the Pro will work on wet salt beaches.
For some reason the Pro is performing better (more stable and responsive to small gold) in our Aussie gold fields than the AT Gold at prescent

UUMMMM, ERRRR, Yeah yez is right Blowfly1967, I must have had a combined typo and brain glitch.
I will stick to my guns as far as the AT Pro being a much better coin n relic detector than the Gold. I would imagine that DD coil and the silent search is part of the reason that the Pro is doing OK in our gold fields. The AT Gold has a few issues in Aussie ground that I imagine will be sorted out eventually.
