A/T gold or pro?

I live in mn....if I mostly hunt jewelry and coins am I better off with the at gold or the pro? There are only freshwater beaches...... Any thoughts?

I would suggest maybe the AT Pro. The pro has better sound audio to differentiate good targets from not so good targets. If you hunt in areas with low mineralization, consider getting a concentric coil. It will prevent you from digging a whole whack of bottle caps, as the DD coils usually read them as coins. The AT Gold will get you maybe an extra inch in the true all metal mode, which the AT Pro does not. Either detector will serve you well though.

I'd sure tell you to get the AT Gold and learn to use the All Metal mode.

That's kind of what I was thinking.....I assume there is a learning curve with that all metal mode....but shouldn't be all that difficult I imagine.

Yeah, I spent about an hour running in All Metal in a tot lot and dug everything after checking it in Iron Audio. There's a lot of good features on the AT Gold. It can be adjusted to work difficult ground--the threshold can go into the negative numbers to cut out ground noise/chatter in damp sand and still get good depth. And I like the Ground Balance Window for working uneven hot ground, it can even be used to reduce hot rocks. The nice thing about the All Metal is you have the target ID number you can refer to and of course the Hi-Res Iron Discrimination and Iron Audio. After working the All Metal you can even see the DISC modes do not give as much target info as compared to All Metal. I wouldn't say it's as much difference as Standard mode vs Pro mode in the AT Pro, but there is a difference.

Hey cricket, what part of the gopher state do you hibernate out of. My wife and I both grew up in Moorhead........many, many, moons ago. We vacation in the Park Rapids, Walker area a couple times a summer. I have the A T Pro and it works great on those fresh water beaches and out in the water and is a great turf detector. I know before its all said and done, I'll have a Gold, as well. HH jim tn

Far be it from me to try to talk somebody out of spending extra money....but in an effort to really muddy the waters, for what you want to do, I would get the Pro based upon my experience doing exactly the same kind of hunting and the audio John mentioned...most jewelry and coins are not that deep, and even if they are, personal experience, the Pro does not miss them, and if it does, I dont know about it! I guess you will have to get them both to be really sure!

Get the Pro...you'll regret it if you get the Gold. I bought both machine at the same time in 7/28/13. I end up selling the Gold because the PRO out perform it in every way. People keep saying that the GOLD all metal detects deeper...don't be fool.. I had them both side by side and both with the 5x8 coil (GOLD IN ALL METAL) (PRO IN PRO ZERO ) there are no depth differences at all.

So for relics and small Gold and great iron seperation that Gold will be hard to beat. Some say the pro goes deeper well have they put the same size coil on the Gold and performed the same test? If depth is what you want from The gold get a bigger coil but then youll miss the really small gold. The highrr freq makes it more sensative to lead and gold and buttons etc. I love the Gold but have never tried the Pro so take it for what its worth.

I like the tones on the Gold better than the Pro and the Gold seems to lock on to targets better to me,I had both at one time and the Pro started collecting dust so I sold it and haven't regretted doing so.
