A VLF and P.I. COMBO Detector.....is there such a beast available? .....

I have not found a reference to the idea yet, so I must ask:
With the availablity of newer miniturising
technology, would this be a reality?
You could have the best of both worlds.

Hardnose,
The discriminating PI designs some of us are playing around with are indeed a hybrid between a PI and a VLF. With that said, I will quickly add the disclaimer that this is only my opinion.
The new designs require a balanced search coil as does a VLF and they also require that the instantaneous receive signal is measured (as per a VLF/TR) as well as signals received after the transmit pulse has ended.

If somebody said to me, when you want this little control box to hunt with in a high end P.I. all metal mode would use this coil, but when you want to use a high end vlf/tr discrim mode you put this coil on, I would do it. The method to intergrate the two circuits has to be there. I am not sugesting that you use one technology like (PI)to rely on the other(VLF/TR).
I think it would be great if I felt that I could have my Explorer XS, for example, was also intergrated with say a SD2000 or an Aquastar, for water proofing, to make one box that had both technologies. I think it could be done, but would require clever intervention of the more learned experts on this forum.
Personally , I think it would make an awsome combo. Maybe a little confused to the uneducated, when you tell them that you have P.I. Explorer but wow. I would finally be able to do away with have to carry that etxra detector to enjoy both the technologies. I would imagine that the coil could even be "shared". Oh well, maybe in the next lifetime we will see one . I will have to simply dream about it for now.

Hardnose, Unless I was mistaken, I saw your name on the members list for the Minelab owners club in England. I am originaly from England but I now live in Charlote, NC. I was wondering if you are going to try to go to the detecting Rally in Norway? Wow, imagine digging up some good Viking Stuff!!! My wife and I are planning on going, Dave. * * *

Hi Dave,
Would I like to have gone to Norwayfor a detecting rally?
Is the pope catholic?
Check your email for one I have sent you.
