A Walk In The Park

New member
Hi Guys,

Just a couple of pics, 4 weeks one park at 9 hours per week, the return was $360.35 in clads a few gold and silver rings, one silver bracelet, and a couple of ear rings, still got a bit to do in this park and should finish it in about three weeks, however if I had picked up a $2 coin for every wine bottle cap the EX II would be paid for. It's a great machine and why anyone would buy anything else beats me. All of the items in the pictures were taken from the top two inches, not being permitted to dig holes I ignore all the deep targets.
All the best and happy hunting......Boony

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the responses, I can't wait for the powers to do away with our five dollar note and make a five buck coin, then we can pick up a bit of serious money.

All the best....Boony

Hi Eddie,

Sorry, that take was over four weeks in the same park, I go down there for about 3 hours, on Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings, usually start about seven in the morning and back home about ten AM. If stay after ten AM I get too many interruptions from people wanting to know what I'm finding, and all about the EX II, I get a lot of statements from people saying I had a metal detector years ago and it's still sitting in the cupboard, my usual answer is "leave it there", that way there is more stuff for the rest of us to find.

Regards.....Boony

That is just awesome to see that all those finds came from the same park. There are detectorists out there that don't even bother digging all the new coins since they are after the old ones. Just goes to show that it all pays off in the end. Keep up the good work and you might just pay for that detector yet just from that park. HH and WTG!

Hi Mike,

I reckon there are a lot of pre decimal coins in the park, but because we have a no dig policy I guess they will have to stay there. The local council cancelled all permit to dig in the parks about three years ago, and since then I think I'm the only person to apply for a permit to hunt in our parks, however it's not all bad, the clad one and two dollar coins add up quickly, and you still get to pick up the odd gold or silver ring.

All the best.....Boony

Boony, We have the same rules here in my local town parks, NO DIGGING and you can only use a probe. We average only 12" rain each year and our sod will easily die if cut or wedged.

One of the good things about it is that you also show all the trash that you pick up and toss out. Maybe in your area, if you show them the amount of trash you are removing, that they will be a little more lenient???

Anyway..it is nice to see a detectorist who removes most ALL TARGETS and in that way, you will certainly find the gold jewelry.

$300+ in coins is a great way to pay off that Explorer also.

Thanks for sharing.

Should I assume that you are hunting in zero discrim and digging all (shallow) signals? If that's the case, how does one maintain the appearance of sanity?
Thanks,
Tagamet

Hi Guys,

Thanks again for the responses, I have set the EX II up in learn mode with all our new coins, all our old coin, and all my Wife's rings, bracelets, and other jewelery, I set the EX on sense 5 and go for it.
I still get a lot of deeper signals but these I have to ignore, maybe someday they will let me dig holes, however I'm happy the way things are at the moment and I still have a fair bit of this park to go and still about 9 other parks that I haven't even had time to look at.
Below is a pic of my settings and in the park I use the Platypus coil, I keep the 15" WOT for the beach.

All the best.....Boony

Thanks for including the screen shot. That helps a newbie like myself a lot. You'd PM'd me about the setup, but that's not how I'd pictured the screen. And Sens **5**? I understand that you're only looking shallow, but that seems like an incredibly low setting. I'm not doubting you for a moment, with those results to show for your efforts.
I must not be holding my mouth right, or something.
Thanks again,
Tagamet

I would have never dreamed of those settings...but that's what so nice about the Explorer. It can be set to just about anything.

Thanks Again,

Hi again Guys,

The setting are as shown and I still seem to get good signals down to about 4 inches, however if you can't dig where you are and only want to pick up the goodies close to the surface they work fine.

Good luck with your park hunting.......Boony
