A Wise Man

Dedicated to my brother, Brian Stucky

There's a little boy sitting out of the group,

a cast wrapped around his limb.

Everyone goes on with their daily lives,

and he wonders why it can't be him.

He prayed to the Lord to grant him a day

where he could be somebody else.

But the Lord shook His head with tears in His eyes,

and said, "Be glad you're yourself."

That boy never knew why he was the one

who had to deal with that pain.

He cried to the Lord to stop the disease,

to please take it all far away.

So God took the hand of that little boy

and said, "Why are you so sad?

You can hear, you can see, you can still interact,

isn't that enough to be glad?"

When that little boy starting growing up

and a hole was made in his throat,

he cried and he pleaded for another way,

he was close to giving up hope.

God wouldn't grant that little boy's wish,

and soon the little boy couldn't eat.

So they put a tube in him and still the boy asked, "Oh God, my good Lord, why me?"

God still didn't answer, but took the boy's hand

and kept leading him down his path.

The boy was soon bleeding, and everyone thought

that this was the end and the last.

But God's plans didn't stop, the doctors were wrong,

and even though the boy didn't speak,

his story reached to so many different ears,

caused so many tears upon cheeks.

"God doesn't take this disease from this boy,

what kind of God would do this?"

But they didn't know that the boy had received

God's most precious of all His gifts.

The boy still grows older, and despite all the pain,

one day, he wrote words to me.

They made me realize how blind we all were,

even if it wasn't plain as could be.

"There are people out there worse off than you,

why can't you be happy with life?

Be glad that you're free from so many things

that cause other people such strife."

That little boy's path, so pained and so long,

took many to the Lord's perfect side;

meant to lead people to the comfort of Christ,

to tear people away from their pride.

So, reading this verse, please take it to heart,

take your life and put it in God's hands

like the boy who walks and talks with his Lord,

less a boy, and more a wise man.
