If you buy a new unit with a warranty check with the maker before modding same as it may just void your warranty in some cases...

Dan I recently bought a handmade unit, had a couple issues with it, so called the maker and told him the problem, asked if he wanted it sent back or for me to just go ahead and fix it myself, since it was a simple fix, he said go ahead and he would appreciate it, it only took few mins but had to dismantle, and didn't want to put up with couple weeks of UPS or whatever and postage ,handling stuff, all turned out well and we had a good understanding of one another, all things turned out well, and my warrantty is still full time, i didn't mind and he was pleased that i did it myself, was just one of those things that can happen to anything, everybody was happy, specially me ,sure saved a bunch o time, and probly sevral dollars, but i would never touch or modify without talking to the service dept, company or whoever, nooo way HH:detecting:

There's lots of cases where the manufacturer not only won't repair under warranty but also will not touch a modified machine even if you are prepaid to pay for the work.
Thus a modified machine can be difficult to trade in with a dealer although a private buyer often would prefer a modification that improves balance or even just switching from all metal to discrim. and back.
