? about my finds today

I found this perty cool badge thing today and not shure what it is. heres a pic looks like a eagle. also i found a 1875 seated liberty dime, all of the united states of america is readable, along with date and has cc under the wreath if anyone knows about what its woth would be great its in really good condition. just as a reminder ALWAYS RECHECK YOUER HOLES I had a good 90 signal, and bounced around some well found a piece of shotgun shell first, recheck and pull tab, recheked and pulled out the 1875 seated liberty about shit my pants first silver ever i just started this hobby about 2 months ago with my fisher f5 bein the first detector. was really gettin aggravated but i got er figuered out now she still lies to me once in awhile, but i recon we all deal with that. thanks for youer input here on these finds. also are musket balls worth more when thier mangled from hitting its target or something?

Can't answer any of your questions but congrats on the seated liberty!!

Yep, that is exactly what it is!!! Hunt and re-hunt that spot, should be more Civil War relics in there!! Great find!!
Musket balls (round balls) usually arent worth much shot or not. There are some bullets (3-ringers, etc.) that have some value though. All of them, however, have significant historical value to relic hunters!! Get back in there and start your collection, it is addicting, and you already have your centerpiece in that breast plate. I have been at it for quite a while and have never found one.

redneckjimmy1980: Been a while, I see that you are bonding with your F-5, the breast plate is a fairly rare find, and worth several $$$ to a collector, the 1875 cc dime is worth between 15 to 75 dollars depending on condition of the coin. You are now becoming a serious hunter and getting to know your machine, patience and persistence pays, good luck and HH Steve

Man! Be really careful and concentrate on that location! Be especially cautious on your digging...you dont want to damage something like that, nice and easy...that stuff has been waiting for you for 150 years...You should also hustle on over to the Civil War Forum and post that picture and ask for advice on how to clean, or the value of it...Nice Work!
Mud

yea i am definately gettin addicted to this hobby its gotta be one of the best things ive gottin into. wonder if i shold clean the plate usen electrolises? or lea ve as is. u know that plate was only like 2 inches under and i also found another one in thier, but its to far off to read anything on it. i live about 20 min from gettysburg and got permission to hunt alot of fields so should find alot more good finds. this site im on now is a open field that used to have a house on it some time ago, because i dug a kids toy air plane, and quite a few square nails. just rememer guys always recheck youer holes if i didnt recheck this hole 3 ties i woulda misssed the 1875 dime. i'll keep y'all up on any more good finds. and thanks for all y'alls help on findin this stuff as steve knows, and a few others here knows i was about to wrap this thing around the tree when i first got it,now i wanna replace my old lady with it. maby ill marry the f-5 instead it makes me money she cost me money.

I dont think that I would stick that plate in an electrolysis tank!! I would do as mud suggested and get over to the CW forum and ask them for help on cleaning it. Would be a shame to mess that beauty up. I will one day visit Gettysburg hopefully and walk my distant uncle's famous charge!! I cant wait to see some more stuff you pull out of them battlefields and campsites!!

A couple of really great finds. You have some good advice. Cleaning relics is a careful art. find out how. Silver coins, just rinse them off with water. Don't rub them. HH jim tn

Yeah, two months in and finding lead and breastplates:yikes:, do as jim suggested and find out how to clean 'em!! You are gonna find lots more!!!! Confederate stuff is the expensive stuff, you live where it was dropped!!!! I love finding silver but I would run directly over it to have a chance at finding Civil War relics, unless, of course, it was period silver!:detecting:

yea man if ya get up this way thiers lots of fields u can hunt, just be carefull as alot of the gettysburg area is owned bye the national park and its federal offence if ya get caught theyd sooner see it go to hell and rot then for someone to enjoy it in thier collection. was out this mornin and found another musket ball, and hot rock about it. I know thiers more out thier recon i should hit the crick whear they woulda gotton watter and probaly did laundry its right beside this field i found these items in. hopen to get back out in a bit,but dont look like im gonna make it. hope yall get the chance to dig one of them eagle plates talk about haven a heart attack ya shold of seen when i dug it out about sh it my pants.
