ACE 250 on the beach

Beach cruiser

New member
Strange things happening at the beach. When I scan the beach in some places the ACE will pick up all kinds of erroneous targets. If I move to another part of the beach just a few yards away it clears up. I am guessing the beach is much wetter in some areas than others and the ACE does not seem to like the wet sand at all. This happens all the time. I have experimented with the sensitivity as well as the notch discrimination and nothing seems to help with this. What is a good detector for wet packed sand. Don't get me wrong I love my ACE. Just an observation I guess.:detecting:

The Ace is a great detector, but not good in wet sand or salt water. Too much salt which is a mineral. It does ok in dry sand though.
God Bless

The ACE 250 - in beachcombing terms - is best suited to dry-sand, though it will work to a certain extent over sea water soaked sand, with the Sensitivity backed-off. Sea water is mineralised, tho many so-called 'writers' on the hobby refer to something called 'salt-wet sand', whatever that is!

In dry sand, where tourists flock, it is a machine - especially when using the large coil - that is simply superb. In dry sand conditions amongst the junk, where I dig every signal, I find spendable cash over a three month period, in five or six, two-hour sessions, amounting to the equivalent of $1,000 - IN ADDITION TO the jewellery. IT's a great piece of kit. An entry-level machine it is not! Many of the gold rings fall into the 'ring-pull' section. Notch-out silver foil, and dig the rest - you will find a whoole lot more.

Good hunting

Does the 1350 have the same problem in wet sand? I see that it too has
a factory preset ground balance like the Ace.
