Ace 250 Sweep Speed

New member
How fast should one sweep with the Ace 250? Also, would the sweep speed change with different coils?

The ace is really forgiving when it comes to swing speed , but if you swing it too fast it will cause more false hits. The best swing speed is described in the users manual but I cant remember the exact wording at the moment. If it feels like you are swinging too fast then you probably are. Experimentation and finding the swing speed that works best for you is important.

The 250 has a pretty rapid response and recovery and can be swung fairly fast but you can skip over targets doing this. Unless you're in a competition hunt slower is better. Remember, your signal at peak depth is only covering an area about the size of a quarter. You can do the math.

Your detector will detect deeper with faster swings. You must find the balance between achieving maximum depth while giving your detector time to recover between targets. My opinion is slow down in trashy areas or areas where there are loads of targets, speed up in cleaner areas while overlapping your swings a bit more. I also tend to search an area in one direction and the next time I go back I hunt the same area in a different direction. The second time you should be able to increase your swing speed a bit because you've already thinned out the targets. I eventually get almost everything.

mine works great at a nice normal pace, not fast but not slow..:thumbup:i do enjoy my ace250 along side with my excalibur2:detecting:

I have no problems hunting fast in the relics mode-any two signals close together will give a sound. It might not be a belltone all the time, but when I slow down on the resweep, the two signals usually appear. In coins mode, I'm lazy and relaxed with a nice comfortable sweep-sorta let the detector swing itself. I agree with others that the Ace has a slow reset-but the relics mode picks up everything above a nail and helps overcome this "weakness".
