Ace 250 w/ 9x12 coil yalls thoughts?

Looking at this coil for beach and deep coin hunting in clear areas. How have yall been doing with it? Is it real nose hvy? does it put too much stress on the shaft? I usually shy away from the "garbage can lid" size coils. Curious about it though. Price $ $ $ new vs. Used?

It goes deep.
It cover a lot of ground.
Found the coil cover holds a lot of sand, so I remove it for beach use.
When I bought the unit I also bought the large coil through recommendations of others.
One of the best add-ons I ever bought.
Consider the rain cover also.
Makes the unit look good and you never know when your going to get that shower.
Plus it protects it for the fine beach sand..

Happy hunting

Bruce

No unless it loads up with sand.
Price is about $85.00.
Used maybe about $70.00 plus or take.
If people get them they keep them.
Same pinpoint as the stock coil.
I don't have a problem with pinpointing, but some do.
Great for soccer fields also.
and again they go deep.

I just picked up the 9x12 and the rain cover. Just swung it quickly through a park and it was getting down there for older pennies. It is noticably heavier than the 6.5 coil. I'm not saying boat anchor, but definately noticable, compared to the 6.5 fly weight.

It's not heavy. I use it all the time in the snow and on sports fields. It gets the job done quicker due to its size, and yes, you should get about a couple of extra inches for depth. My stock coil just sits around collecting dust. It's either the 9 x 12 or the sniper.

If it fatigues you because of the extra weight, just shorten the rod, keep your swinging arm as close to your body as you can and don't cut such a large arc with your coil. This principle also works for the GTI 2500.

I have used all of my coils and find they all have there "best uses". I use the 9x12 for open or large areas to be covered and the beaches. When I start detecting lots of hits with the 9x12 I will use the wifes 250 with the stock coil to weed through some of the hits and clean the area up a bit then go back to the big coil to see what is down deep. I just got my sniper and it is fantastic so far. I found a 1/8" long by pencil thin width earing prong or something that is maybe nickle plated or it could be silver plate (has "made in Hong Kong" on it) but it found that little item down 4 inches!

The 9X12 is a very good coil. I would get all 3 coils if you are going to be using the ACE alot and in varied areas.

You'll hardly notice the difference. Great for covering large areas and you'll get another 2-3 inches in depth and it pinpoints just like the stock coil. Many guys use it exclusively.

It's a great coil. I used it exclusively for 18 months. It picks through trash fairly well. If beach hunting, it's perfect. I was getting a measured 10 inches on a smaller coin. (about an inch deeper than my XS Explorer. I tested them side by side on the same target, that's why I know.)
I found that because it is bigger, you can get a bit more subtle information out of the pinpoint fade than the standard coil.
As far as the weight goes, yes it's a bit heavier. From memory, about 5 ounces (150 grams). I did buy the coil cover, but putting it on made it feel too heavy, so I didn't use it. Keep the coil as close to your feet as you feel comfortable(same applies to all coils) and change hands regularly. I do this with all my detectors and although it may feel odd at first, after a few hunts it will start to feel right. This massively reduces fatigue.
The only cravat that I would give (and this applies to the standard coil as well) is when in pinpoint, if the target seems to be a pipe, then turn through 90 degrees, detune and check the target with a side to side movement. Unfortunately with the ace, if you pick up a second target when pinpointing, then you want get an audio break till you pass over the last target.

Thanks yall! I may wait till I move a machine out the door and use some of the $$ to get the coil.( i found one for $69.00) I can see where it would help to have the larger coil at the beach that's for sure! I'm also concered that the GB would shift due to the larger windings? so far haven't noticed any change between the 4" and 6x9.

great topic...as I am trying to weigh the cost difference vs. performance issue in the purchase of a $700 machine vs the Ace 250.
It amazes me that ya'alls getting that kinda depth on the ACE 250 ... sounds like a great machine. And would sure safe me some $$.
Has anyone done good with the Ace in wet salt beach?? ND

You can find just as much with the 250 as you can with the big buck machines. That's why Garrett sells a train load of them.

Only thing is this is from the dry upper area.
Earlier I seen this group partying, and after dinner I went back down and hit the area where their beach chairs and cooler was.
No complaints when I walked away. This is using the 9 x 12 coil.
Only had about a half an hour to kill.

I am saving to get the 9x12 for my 1350. My brother in law has the ACE 250 and got the 9x12 with it and uses it almost exclusively.:garrett:

Yes but you will lose half your depth. same goes for most VLF machines. To get it to work, you will need to drop the sensitivity to 5 bars and knock out the bottom 3 notches (this will stop it falsing). It don't like having waves crashing over the coil. It goes nuts when it happens.

$69 is a pretty good price. I forgot what I paid for mine, but it was more than
that I'm pretty sure, and that was three years ago.
I don't really find it too nose heavy. It's more than the other coils, but I've
never noticed it to be a real problem. Being it's kind of like a bigger pendulum,
the swing speed will tend to be a bit slower than the smaller coils.
I'd grab it up at that price. I recommend both extra coils for anyone that wants to
get the maximum bang out of an ace 250.

The 9X12 is the only coil I use!!!!

Update: On my second day of using the 9x12 I found that I got used to the mild extra weight quickly. It's more like someone else said it, a bit more inirtia as opposed to real weight.
