Ace 250 XP model?

I know I might be asking a lot for a $200.00 detector. But what if..........................Charles says to his engineers. It time! Time for what the engineers say - lunch? No! Mr. C says. It time you guys turn the 250 into an animal. The engineers ask - what kind of animal, bird, reptile, insect? Heck no! Charles (scratching his head) is now realizing engineers are just too smart to get the just of what he means. Now he lays it on the line. We want to make an Ace 250 with manual ground balance. Get rid of one of those modes and stick the letters GB in there. Then make the + and - the adjustment. We'll call it the 250 XP. Xtra performance unit. The engineers then start thinking about the fat Christmas bonus they will get! New cars! Dance lessons!
Like I said the 250 is a great machine. But think what it could do if you could tweek the GB?

But what he doesn't know is that I like the lightweight Ace package. I believe the weight and feel of the Aces is about as good as you can get.

And if you have a GB, then an all-metal autotune mode would round out the package.. oh.. wait.. have it still ID (visually) in that mode. ..Willy.

By using the Ace in Fl. soil, I have an idea of how deep the Ace will go with a GB. The soil is pretty clean. It is just sand being leached out daily in the summer time by torrential down pours. My disappointment came, when I move to WV and had to deal with this mineralized soil here. If it had a GB it would pick up quarters at 12" and cents at 9". I beat out higher end detectors for depth in Fl. soil. Maybe they didn't have all their settings right, but I had targets they could not pick up.
I don't like to mention it much because others who are using the Ace in their soil wouldn't believe me. What would that kind of depth on the Ace do to the sells of the higher end detectors. It would upset everything. It would make many detectors obsolete.
Ace with GB: light weight, deeper than most detector, great on the beach, relic machine, very sensitive to small objects(maybe gold detector). Put it in a water proof case and the other detector companies will send a hit man after Charles Garrett.

That's what I'm talking about! All it needs is a manual GB. I don't like an auto track machine. I have very moderate soil here but a little GB adjustment could get me better depth and stability because then (maybe) I could run with the sens full blast? Garrett told me the GB is programed on the chip. So to me this could be just a software upgrade. How many detectorist would upgrade or even switch to Garrett then? Just about all of them! I have my 250 in a waterproof box (Lake Looter). It pulled me 8 rings and 1 - 22 inch 14K chain this summer in the water. That's more than I have gotten in 23 years of detecting! I am even fine with 11 notches. That's plenty for me too.
Who wouldn't like a feather lite TID detector with GB?

I put the Ace up against my Explorer in dry beach sand 6 weeks back. Using a $2 coin as the test target (20.62mm diameter that's about three quarters of an inch) the Ace with the large coil was hitting it at 10 inches, about a 2 and a half inch wide signal. The Explorer armed with the 10.5 inch DD coil hit it after I passed it over the same target, but only after I had waived it over it over a dozen times. on a first pass basis, the Ace is deeper. In wet sand, the Ace was no match.

The GB would be nice-- Our soil here in TN is pretty neutral. I wish he could add a feature where it would hold the target ID longer, You better look quick or its gone.

I could see that replacing another mode. Just hit the mode button until you get to volume then use the + or - to adjust. Just really how many hunting mode do we need? You can reject or accept the notches so quick anyway. How about 2 modes for hunting. Coins and all metal. Then our other freed up modes will be for GB, volume and?????

I don't really want others to know how good the Ace is Kenny. It's not anywhere as well known over here in Oz as the States. Phil has asked me to write a blurb on it for the local rag. While I've given my word on it, I was going to reveal it's secrets, I think that I'll hold out on what the Ace does best as I don't want too much competition..I live in an isolated town that gets hit hard twice a year by the tourists, so a guys got to have an edge somewhere. As I've just discovered a couple of nice tricks with the X-Terra, that in open fields, allows it to discriminate better than the Ace; maybe I should write an article about that so that I can distract them from the Ace! After all, most Aussies buy Minelab anyway.
Lately, I've found that the 12 notch system is all that is really needed. It gives you all the info you need (once combined with the pinpoint fade). I've looked closely at quite a number of machines that have a more refined discriminator and came to 2 conclusions. 1. They don't achieve that much better discriminate that much better. 2. If you use more discrimination than the 12 notches, then you risk missing some good jewellery.

One must also conside that turning the 250 into a "Super Ace" would generate such sales volume that profits would far surpass the profit made on the higher end machines.. I heard that just the sales on the 250 paid for the new addition to the Garrett factory. The GTI's and GTP would still hold their own due to their unique features, and the Infinium and Scorpion are in a world all their own.

Sooooo, I wonder what Garrett would charge to upgrade the existing Ace?
It would certainly get the People at Fishers attention. They would probably follow suite
with adding things to the F2. Nothing like a little compition if the end result is a better
detector for us.
