ACE 250

HI gang, happy holidays.

Just put the 250 together for the wife. I have a question on it, did not see in the manual. Does this detector run silent. and is there an option to run with a threshold?????

Thanks

Paul Mass.

Not quite sure I understand your question, but I will try to answer. If your machine is not making any sound, you may have a problem with the speaker. But if you question is regards to silencing the detector, the ACE 250 can be made to run silent by installing a headphone adapter into the headphone jack. But, the tone information you hear is as important as the ID info you see on the screen. I use headphones most of the time and find the tone information dictates whether I dig or not. Some people dig all signals, but that isn't always realistic for me in trashy areas.

Happy hunting!

The 250 is what could be called 'Silent Search', yes. And no, darn it, there is no option to engage the threshold, nor adjust it.

I find it comforting to have the buzz of a threshold in my headset, but the 250 doesnt have it until you go to pinpoint.

But, guess what?? It's a dandy detector as is! Give it a week - it'll grow on you big time.

All threshold accomplishes on modern detectors is to establish audio for pinpoint and all metal. I usually run mine silent as it can mask some targets. Now if you had an old BFO you couldn't detect without a threshold.

...not the detector, ME. Somehow, I still like the comfort of that barely audible buzz. Guess Im weird - well, okay, I know I am - but it still pleases me.

I like it too!! More than once I've taken a break while using the 250, and after the break, hunted for quite a few minutes with my rig OFF!! (Hmm, sure not many targets here, wonder why not? Yikes, power off!!)

Youre so right, BCD. The 250 is silent fer sure. I occasionally pop on the pinpoint just to make sure its running.

I echo Dave's comments. I use an Ace 250 as a secondary machine and I love it. I also have the 9 X 12 coil, and that will cover a reasonable amount of real estate with each pass. It goes a couple inches deeper too.
