Ace 350 feedback

I am only a newbie and am just learning. Today I took the new Ace 350 to the local park for a couple of hours. That double DD coil really loves the beer bottle caps. Must have dug up 25 of them. Also some misc. junk and alum. tabs. But did find one clad quarter, so it was good day I figured with learning the machine and digging targets. Will be going out again tomorrow morning. Rich

If you get a target that is hitting in the same area on the visual display as a crown cap, wiggle the coil back towards yourself. As the coil goes off the target, a crown cap will give you a low or minus notch and low tone, a coin won't.

I'm in the process of field testing the 350. I'll have some pics to post tomorrow of some of my finds including some jewelry, a gold chain, and a diamond wedding ring. The 350 is a real goodie magnet like the 250 only vastly improved. The new DD coil is a delight to use except for it's natural love of bottlecaps. Pinpointing with it is a snap and you don't even need to press pinpoint, just wiggle the coil gently as you drag it back towards you until the signal stops and your target will be right under the Garrett name on the front tip of the coil every time. It covers much more ground with each scan and eliminates overlapping and if you play with it right it works good up next to metal playground equipment.

The coil is super sensitive and isolates targets like a champ. It's sensitive to small jewelry and gold items. Gold chains are picked up best in zero mode and give a Boop! type signal. I picked one up that was down about four inches. I checked it in the other modes and it would hardly register if at all. The 14 KT diamond wedding band was picked up in coins mode at about three inches and gave the standard signal. I still have some more testing to do and haven't been out with it as much as I want to. It's supposed to rain this weekend so that blows two days. Once I complete the test it will be published in Western & Easternt Treasures magazine.

I've posted a few of my finds with my 350. I can't say it's a huge difference between the 250 and 350, but I was in the market for another good inexpensive detector. Had the 350 not been available, I may have just got another 250 with the larger coil, and am sure I'd have been just as equally pleased with either.

I plan to return to a couple of the fields I've already hunted with the 350, and dig some of the "iffy" signals I'd previously passed-up, just to see what I might have left. It'll be interesting to see the results.

I pinpoint with the center of the coil (in front of the stem), same as I've always done with my 250. The 350 loves aluminum same as the 250 does.

Do I regret my purchase? Not at all as it fit the requirements I had for purchasing a 2nd detector. But if someone is in the market for a great detector, and money is an issue (there's an $85 difference between the 250 and 350), then by all means buy the 250. If you can afford the extra, then get the 350.
