Ace250 survived our swim.

Friday I had slipped crossing a creek and got my Ace 250 wet. I dried it out for 30 hrs, in the sun for bout 8 hrs and a fan on it the whole thirty hrs. I put it back together last night and it came on no problem. I did some bench testing. No problem. I took it out about 9 am this morning to a local park just to see how it preformed. I didn't plan on staying more than an hour because of alot of things I needed to get done today. Well five and a half hours later I finally went home. If my back and my knees had not started screaming I might still be out there. The ace was at the top of its game. I found one ring (cheapy but still a ring) , a set of keys, a hot wheel, a little pad lock, two old buttons, and 101 clad. Found 3 nickels, I am still having trouble knowing the sound of a nickel and the sound of trash on the nickel notch. I remember Uncle Willy saying that there is a subtle difference in the tone but I am having a hard time distinguishing that difference. Just need more time I guess. I found 81 Penny's (not one a wheat),3 nickels,12 dimes,5 quarters. loads and loads of trash. I always dig every nickel signal but out of about 500 coins I have found, so far less than ten are nickels. I have had a great quarter day, a few good dime days ,Penny's are everywhere, but nickels elude me for some reason. While I was drying out my ace I realized I needed a back up detector. not having one ready to go was nerve racking. I ordered another one Friday eve. I was going to get another ace but thought I would try something different. I decided to get another low priced beginners detector and I got a brand other then Garrett. when I am ready to step up I'll get the GTI 1500 or the Scorpion. I wanted another detector that I could let a friend use if I can talk her into coming out with me. Anyway,I am sure glad my ace is alright. I have to say you just can't beat a Garrett!:detecting:

well, it's good to know that the Ace will go for a short swim and recover nicely. Hi lucky!

I've had the same issues with my 250 and nickles. About 8 of 10 of every nickle signal is a pull tab. For some reason they must be nearly identical to the Ace. And if UncleWilly can hear a difference he's got better ears than me. Anyhow, glad things worked out for you.

:usaflag:Glad it turned out ok.....ya got lucky !

Thanks guys. Yes I did get lucky. If I ever decide to cross a creek with my ace again it will be wrapped up in 32 extra large garbage bags.and totally sealed.

Well Tony when you get er dried out your gonna have the best hunt you have ever had good luck buddy and post some pics. I was gonna tell you to pop that baby in the microwave but not knowing you well enough ........well you never know. The kicker to that hunt was,I noticed probe holes all over the place in the area that I searched. it Rained Thursday so whoever hunted the area before me had to do it on Fri,or Saturday. I came behind them Sunday and did all right. makes me wonder what the guy/gal before me might have found.
