Advantages of the 705 over the 505 ?

Just wondering if anyone has used the both the 505 and the 705 , I have the 505 with four different coils and I love it and have made some great finds with it . Should I buy more coils and continue using the 505 or should I go ahead and get the 705 ? what are the advantages of one over the other ?

Here's the Xterra comparison page. It's a good place to start. You can see the features and adjustment ranges side-by-side.

I've owned all three X-Terras (305/505/705) and they are all good for what they do. I recommend the 705 for ease of use & extra features if one can afford the extra $s. One of the forum sponsors gave me a good deal on a used (but like new) 705 and it was worth every penny. Keep your coils and save up for a 705 or see if the sponsors will take your 505 + some cash for a good used 705. You won't regret it.

If I had a 305 the difference is pretty big between it and a 705, being able to use a 3khz coil and the other features ... if you could sell the 505 for a decent price then I would. what coils do you have ... I wasn't real impressed with the Concentric coils but the Digger is awesome and also have the 10.5 DD coil in 7.5 kHz for more open areas. and also heard a lot of good things about the stock gold coil

If you are careful how you set it up, the 505 can hunt as deep as the 705. In fact, I like having the -9 ferrous notch on the 505, to help distinguish deeply buried iron. However, when you factor in the Tracking GB offset, more notch segments (and audio tones), Prospecting mode, Auto GB, Beach GB, More Patterns, Sizing Pinpoint, and a couple functions that can be set with a greater degree of precision (e.g. Sensitivity, GB) the 705 can be "more finely tuned" for the majority of sites. Especially in trashy areas. JMHO HH Randy

well there you heard it from the two experts, Longhair and Digger ... I'm just a decent novice, both those two are worlds above me in experience and knowledge

Everything that Digger said, + backlight, i think a backlight is very important if your eyes are bad like mine.

Thanks everyone for the comments .After much consideration there will be a 705 added to my arsenal in the near future, still debating on keeping the 505 for a back up thou , it's kinda like an old friend that I hate to give up !

If you don't NEED to sell it, by all means, keep it! You never know... perhaps one day you will have an issue with the 705, and at least you will still be able to hunt... or perhaps a friend would like to join you, then you have a spare!

The 505 rocks! I have found very deep coins with mine and I don't feel like I'm missing much by not using a 705. My buddy has a 705, & we both find coins at the same depths. For me, a backlight isn't necessary as I don't hunt in the dark, and I still have the tones to hunt by. If I were more into prospecting, the 705 would be a better choice IMO. I used my savings to buy an HF 6" DD coil.
