advice for new detector

I used to detect a long time ago. My first machine was one my dad and I made from a radio shack kit. Then I had a whites 4db. It worked well but got ran over by my brother. I then bought a mini red baron. It never seemed to work as well as my whites. So I always said If I ever get another metal detector I would get a whites. Well here it is many years later and I started looking to get back into detecting and I was looking at whites. Then I saw the minelab units and got very interested in them instead of whites. I'm I going to be saying I should have bought a whites if I purchase the Mine lab Safari. Thanks for any advice and remember I haven't looked a metal detector for ....20 years so I'm way behind the times. I will say I have been spending a lot of time here reading the posts and have learned a lot. Thanks

There is a learning curve to the Safari. The control interface is easy enough to navigate but learning all the different signal tones is kind of tough. Takes a lot of practice and concentrated listening. Take it slow and learn what the machine is saying and you'll love it. I'm sure a Whites machine would work fine for you, but, in my humble opinion nothing compares to the depth and discrimination capabilities of a FBS machine. Really just depends on what YOU like best.
