Advice GTI upgrade

CanadaDig

New member
My Brother received a GTI 2000 from a Friend needing money for $120. He has caught the Metal Detecting Bug and is going out whenever he has a chance. He called Garrett and can get it upgraded for $350 , they will replace the board and the coil for that price. Is it worth it or should he continue on learning his detector and possibly buy something next year? I do not know much about Garrett detectors except the Propointer is awesome. I have have a fisher F4 and like how his detector was at the current state, however Im a newbie as well. Any Honest opinion would be helpful.

I think they said it would be upgraded to 2500 what ever that means.

I used to own the GTI 2500, and I loved it. It is a HEAVY machine though, and if it were me in your brothers situation, I would not get the upgrade. I would use the machine as is and put the $350 towards my savings for a new detector. JMHO

I think I would hold off for this years. The hunting season is almost over for Northern area anyway.$ 350 for upgrade and shipping cost. ??? Look at the GTI's next year a new 1500 would be the trick. If you go for the upgrade basically they are giving you a $900 machine for $350 . If Garrett is replacing all the electronics and coil whats left when stuff is remove ,plastic box and a shaft. Only reason I would wait this year is to see if any new models come out or any more upgrades on their existing models.
