Advice on Nickel hunting

I have a question for you experienced pros. When coin hunting in areas that have a lot of cut up aluminum cans (parks that mow them instead of picking up prior to mowing) how can I better distinguish between those small pieces of aluminum that read in the nickel range from both directions and the real nickels. My percentages are five to one junk at best in those parks.
Thanks, Sawyer

You might want to lift the coil about a foot off the ground. If you still get a reading......its probably a can or piece of one.....However my freind digs all of those signals cause it might be "the top of the jar of gold coins".... <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

Since I started using the XS II and the dual digital my nickle finds have increased. I find that nickles will read conductivity of 5 and ferrous at 11 I beleive it is(been a while since I used it and have a short memory when you get old, plus havent got out for over 2 months) where as many trash items may read the 5 conductivity, but will be 12 or higher or 9 and lower on alum trash. The only one that is differnt is the war nickles as conductivity is 7 on some of them. I still check the 6 also if the ferrous is 11.

I don't own a 11 model and always felt the dual Conduct and Ferrous numbers may indeed help with nickels and above all with gold rings where every little helps to cut down the odds..Your post is quite informative and guess some just experiment a bit to get the most out of their unit..Thanks for sharing as this subject has been kicked around before with most saying both numbers offer little or no help.Been in this hobby for years and always felt a excellent unit is nice, but to get the most out of it makes one a true Detectorist...

I'm no pro, but I to get a lot of nickels. Most of mine come in at 10-05 or 10-06, but to be honest with you I've pulled out nickels that have read all over the place. Such as 12-05, 09-05, 09-06, 08-05, 08-06 etc... I know it's a pain to be diggin lots of trash but you'll be surpised everyonce in awhile If it's easy digging and you've got the time dig'em all.

I Own A Explorer11.I Use Smartfind Mode.On The Display Face Of The Detector Nickels(Where The Cross Hair Line Up)Read Near The Bottum Center Of The Deplay. You Will Still Want To Dig Objects Where The CrossHairs Close TO Where Nickels Read.Trash Objects Will Still Be Found But The More Nickels You Find Notice On The Display Face Where The CrossHairs Line Up.Pull-Tabs Tend Show Up Higher On The Display Face.I Hope This Helps- Good Hunting
