Have been "thinking" about possibilities for my F5.I currently have the stock eliptical coil which came stock with mine.
I see that you can buy Fisher's own 11" DD, and Kellyco carries the 13" Detech Ultimate, plus the 10"x 12" Butterfly coil. Prices for all 3 are pretty close and range from $169 for the Fisher to $199 for the Ultimate.
Realizing that the Ultimate coil is the newest of the 3, is there REALLY any appreciable difference among them and are these aftermarket coils really an upgrade to the Fisher or just more marketing BS? Have any tests been done that PROVE one coil is distinctively better than the other 2? Yes, these foreign aftermarket coils have a longer warranty, but you pay more for them and they are made overseas, so is a warranty even worth anything.
Another note. I tend to like this forum and it seems to be the only one where there is any kind real discussion about the F5, other than "you should have bought a (fill in the blank)" instead of the F5; which is what you get on most forums. I read most of the F5 posts and try different settings on different items. I get the impression that the F5 is a way better unit than Fisher would like it to be, because it costs far less than than the F70, 75, etc, which are pushed more. You just have to learn how to use it and not rely on the software. Am I wrong?
I knew when I bought it after Christmas that I would probably not have a lot of time to spend with it, and I don't. But I have taken it out a bit when time permits and am trying to learn how to use it correctly. I probably don't have 10 hours into it and have found only "junk" on a piece of property I bought recently in North Central Louisiana; but that is okay. I know that in a couple of years when I retire from from "big evil oil company" I will have plenty of time and I want to go over the whole place before I plant a house on it.
