Agree or not-the gold.

Very deep on small items or deeper, medium targets but on the downside, you will be on your hands and knees digging up steel pull tab after steel pull tab as it has only very minimal discrimination. Basically only enough to eliminate an aluminum pull tab, some tinfoil. It very effectively eliminates most common-size nails on the plus side. NOT at all what you'd want to use in a trashy park unless the park is very old and has been historically good for finding the deep, old coins. Otherwise, I would strongly suggest this only as a backup machine in a trashy park. More specifically designed for gold/deep relics, not parks or even average house yards for that matter. The lawn would look like a battlefield with this very sensitive detector. For these two places, I would go with a Tesoro Vaquero or Tejon of which both seem to go deeper than the Vista Gold and also have full-range disc unlike the Vista Gold.

Guess you never used a Vista Gold.
You have formed an opinion by reading what others thought the Vista might be like by reading the specs.
I thought the same way at first, so I held off buying a Vista Gold for almost two years.

How to use the Vista Gold in trash:
Use your discrimination control just like you would a Tesoro to knock out small foil. But still get the small thin gold rings.
Or hunt in two tone and set the tone break to just below where the thin gold ring still gives a high tone. Generally the same setting the disc control
is set at. Go hunt. You can easily figure out if a high tone is canslaw or crapppla by the way it sounds or pinpoints.
Set your iron volume low. High tone targets come thru loud and clear if running two tone mode.
If its real trashy use fast recovery. Boost off, back off on the sensitivity.
Use the 6x8 coil.
You would be surprised how well the Gold works in trashy parks etc.

I had a few Tejons, Vaquaro and a ton of other Tesoros models and for a beep and dig for gold jewelry and coin hunting, I'll take the Vista Gold over a Tesoro.
If your just looking for silver jewelry and coins, don't care about gold and don't want to dig trash by all means a Tesoro is better with the higher discrimination.
I would rather did the trash to find the gold.
