air tests since weather stinks.

yes your right. 40 disc is only where 2 tones separate iron from all other metals. maybe that is why depth is almost unchanged? makes sense. maybe i will try a test with all 40 and below disc out... see what that does.

Tone break and disc out are different. The light gray area below the dark gray area on the graph gets the grunt tone and the area that's not shaded below that is what I thought was discriminated out. Think of it as a 2 tone detector. You're not discriminating out just because you use different tones. Right?????? If you punch in "60", the area that's not shaded on the graph is 0 - 40. I was under the impression that was the area that is discriminated out.

We need Monte to chime in on this one.

I see what you are saying now. I think it just depends on what you want to call "discrimination." I thought that for this model of detector, based on the fact that you have to enter into "discrimination" mode, and then "increase the discrimination" using the "plus" key, that what you are thus doing is increasing your "discrimination" level, simultaneous to increasing your "tone break," between high tones and low tones. Such that, when you reach, say, the number 40, what you have done is set your discrimination at 40 AND your "tone break" (the break between your high tones and low tones) also at 40. Increasing past 40, and yes, you start seeing that gray bar, and anything below the bottom of that bar you will hear NOTHING. I think this is what you were referring to as being "discriminated out". Obviously with most detectors, what you "discriminate" out, you don't hear -- and thus, I think that's why you are saying that "only what is below the light gray area is discriminated out." On the other hand, based on how this detector works, I think your discrimination level really coincides with your "high tone/low tone" tone break point. I think it is just semantics.

So do the T2 and Omega and Gamma.

With the T2 and Omega and Gamma, we can set the Discrimination at minimum, so we are not manually Discriminating or Rejecting anything. However, if using the 2+ or d2 audio Tone ID we are 'rejecting' some Iron audibly due to the lower bassish Tone ID.

With the G2 and Gold Bug Pro, we can use the familiar term of Discrimination, which usually means a point of 'rejection', but it will not always be accurate. These models feature the single or dual-tone audio and a variable 'Tone Break' which enters into the scheme of things.

With a Discrimination setting of '0' or '1' ... nothing is manually rejected. All targets will produce a single high-tone audio.

With a Discrimination setting of '80' ... everything below '80' is manually rejected. All targets above '80' will produce a single high-tone audio.

With a Discrimination setting of above '40' and below '80' ... targets will produce a high-tone above that setting, a lower bass-tone below that setting, and once low enough (determined by the shaded area and blank area on the arched scale) to have a VDI below the shaded area will be 'rejected' (a term usually used to describe being Discriminated). Not with these two models.

So we need to qualify a Discrimination setting, and when necessary, also define the 'rejected' or non-responsive setting.

yep! lol i do have to change the thinking process. in reality i disc out zero and instead just made 2 tones. i love these tek machines. the options on these are so great. i have the g2, t2se both have both coils, and i have a omega that is at my son in laws house. so im down to just 2 machines now. but i dont feel that i will miss anything in the ground. speed is amazing on these 2! if you wave a coin past the coil as fast as you can the g2 and t2se will still respond easily. the omega and mxt are a close 2nd as they will start missing the target and stop sounding off. im very much wanting to get out and run these machines and put them thru some tests! i just tested the t2se on the porch and got a good chirp at 22 inches on a silver dollar. in bp mode sens at 90 and disc at 10.. i like the power that is available with this unit.
