Does anyone digs for bottles or do any metal detecting on the Baldwin County side of Mobile Bay?

They have a task force over there that does nothing but hunt for folks that use detectors, that's a FACT. Parts of the public beach are OK to hunt and private land.
Always make sure you have the property owners phone number handy and written permission (in hand) or better yet the owner with you.
Them folks don't play and will put you under the jail in Baldwin County.
I reckon you could get away with digging bottles over there as long as you was nowhere near the Fort area and no detector.
I've got permission to hunt some private spots from years back to present when I go down that way but I don't like the hassle from the cop squad and rangers.
I took some friends to Ft. Blakeley one day, stopped at the front and went inside and told the ranger that I had a metal detector in my truck and would like to leave it in their office so no hassle would incur. They acted like I was Al Capone or something.
They searched my truck, held us at the gate for 2 hours and finally decided to let us leave ... my friends never got to see the Fort.
One of the ladies that was in our group works for the US Marshalls office in Birmingham, she finally got fed up with their crap and flashed her credentials and they got a better attitude all the sudden.
Anyway ... be careful over there.

Thanks Mike. My son might be moving to the area and I thought I'd see if I could hook up with someone to go with when I come to visit.

Plenty of folks hunt in Baldwin County with success. It was one of the last CW battles to take place. Unfortunately many have sneaked into the Fort at night and hunted illegally, some got caught and many didn't so they are serious about it.
But ... if you happen to hook up with the RIGHT folks that do have legal spots to hunt you can be in for a great day :)
Contact a local detecting club and ask around. Even some of the local police officers metal detect and have some good sites with permission available.
Contact Savage here on this forum, I belonged to the same club before I moved, they may be able to give you some good info.
Good Luck & Good Hunting
Mike
